A: Amber with a deep reddish hue in color and a dense 1/8 inch head with sticky lacing.
S: Spicy pine and sweet malty syrup.
T: Piney, resiny hops, with light pepper on the finish. Clean malt backbone with a crisp, warm, hoppy finish.
M: Low, medium bodied with a dry finish. Medium carbonation.
O: The best double IPA I've ever had from Texas. Please St. Arnold make this a regular rotation.

12oz bottle: Thanks Kaggie! This one pours a hazy amber color. There was just a wisp of an off-white head on it, and no lacing. Nice nose on this one. Orange, lemon and pine notes. Maybe a hint of peaches. Nice taste! Fair amount of bitterness, orange, peach and pine notes. Big malt body underneath, but no sweetness coming through. Very Nice!

Sampled February 2012
A steady pour into my Lost Abbey Teku glass produces a three finger thick, light tan colored head that leaves some nice, layered lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a bright, gold highlighted, rich amber hue that shows a brilliantly clear, bright amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of bright tangelo zest, dusty pine sap, woody-peppery herbal notes, a bright lychee note, and an almost musty, herbaceous hop character. The nose is definitely dominated by the hop character, there is perhaps a suggestion of malt character here, I almost have to guess at the malt aromatics; notes of toasted biscuit and orange scented caramelized malt are just suggested at.

A medium’ish body is cut through by a biting bitterness that lingers through the finish; the bitterness though remains quite smooth, though still lingers quite a bit on the palate. The dominant hop character contributes flavors of lychee, super ripe tangelo zest, floral peach, perhaps some bright apricot, as well as some ample kumquat zest. Some alcohol is noticeable in the finish and adds a touch more bite to the hop character, it also brings out some astringent pine and herbal hop character that also lingers a fair amount in the finish. The texture of this beer is on the light side of medium, this helps this to be still fairly quaffable, which is quite needed for this style of beer. The malt clearly plays a supporting role here, but does contribute softly noticeable notes of English biscuit like maltiness, a touch of whole grain cracker, and perhaps a touch of sweet tea.

A nice example of a Double IPA, it hits all the points that it should, and escapes the pitfall of being too rich or viscous. Definitely quite enjoyable and it certainly hits the spot for this hop-head. This is still doing quite well after almost a year of age; still vibrantly hoppy, perhaps a touch cleaner and less aggressive than it was when fresh, but certainly still showing lots of life.
