I picked this beer up at the Downtown Spec's a couple days ago. I am glad to see that Brock is able to get the specialty beers in bombers now so that the distribution is a whole lot better. I don't know what to expect with this one, but here we go:

Appearance: Pours a mildly hazy yellow color with a small head of small white bubbles that wasn't really creamy as much as fizzy. The head faded quickly after a pretty aggressive pour. There was a little bit of lacing left on the glass after drinking.

Aroma: My first impression of the aroma was of some obvious wet bread dough along with some grassy and mildly citrus hops. The hops are getting more floral as the beer sits and there are some bread-crust-like toasty notes. The aroma is definitely yeasty in this one.

Taste: The flavor follows the aroma pretty closely. It is yeasty with some mild citrus and floral notes from the hops. The malt is contributing about the same as you got with the aroma with some bread crusts. As the beer sits and is starting to warm up, there is a banana component coming out and it is mixing with the breadiness to make it come across a bit like banana bread minus the Walnuts. The overall body is medium with ample carbonation in the mouth, though not a lot of it is sticking. The finish is pretty well balanced.

Opinion: This is a pretty decent Blonde ale, though there isn't much that sets it apart from many others in this category. It has a little bit of lacing, and the flavors and aromas all blend pretty well and all that. I am not a big fan of the banana esters in here, ad when mixing them with the bread dough, makes it a bit much for me. I would prefer that it be a bit drier with less yeast, but that is personal preference. As it is, it hits the marks and deserves evaluation if you really like this style.

Thanks for sharing this, Bobby.

A: The pour is a pale golden straw color with a finger of white head.

S: Seems to have a bit of corn to it as well as some pale malts. Not much in the way of hops, maybe a little floral hop aroma. Might actually have some rice, too.

T: A very light flavor. Some sweet corn and rice flavors with a pale malt/bread flavor. As with the aroma, not much hop flavor. There is a little bit of bitterness and perhaps some floral hops.

M: Light to medium in body with a medium carbonation.

O: Pretty typical, mediocre blonde ale.

I never pass up a chance to buy a St Arnolds beer. Even if it's a style I don't necesarily love. One time release beer so had to give it a shot.

Appearance-Sunny yellow body with carbonation bubbles just skyrocketing to the top. Body is a sudsy white head thats about 3 fingers. Pretty good retention and some lacing stuck around for a few minutes.

Smell-Earthy and Floral aroma. No hop characters present. Some lemony and spices.

Taste-What you see is what you get here. Most Blonde Aromas follow with the taste and this one's no different. Initially sweet with some very subtle bitterness followed by some lemons and spices.

Mouthfeel-Light bodied, very thin. Carbonation on the higher end.

Overall-This is a blonde ale that I could see myself buying again. Very crisp, fresh, and refreshing. Session beer, I think so.

22oz bottled on: 092011
cap: "Donate a pint"
brewed to celebrate Rice University's 100 anniversary

Bottle to SA Lawnmower shaker pint. Pours a crisp banana pudding color with one finger white pillowy head. Good retention in the head dissipates to a little film. It has a sweet citrus aroma, but that's about all I can pick up. The taste is pretty consistent with the aroma, more citrus. It has a pleasant creamy, tingly bite to it, which gives it a nice personality.

Overall, this is a beer that the masses should enjoy, and its pretty drinkable. Its a step up from Hoegarden and its probably pretty limited, but I wouldn't mind having it on another occasion.
