12oz can with no visible date. Bought at the brewery 7-26-19, opened 8-9-19.
1 1/4" white head, good retention and sits firm at 1/4" solid. Clear and clean, golden beer. Some lace.
Floral hop and almost perfumey nose. Corn. Sulfur.
Honey on bread malt and a grassy, and too bitter of a finish.
Light body, medium carbonation with a dry and lengthy finish. Almost too dry --- maybe a touch tannic.
Hard to peg as a Kolsch, not my favorite from this brewery.

CAN:

Minerally taste with hints of buttery and metallic off-flavours.

6-row. Pilsner malt.

Lacks balance. Not the crisp clean Kolsch one hopes for...not even refreshing.

D+ / NOT RECOMMENDED

***
03/27/19:

"Fermented with authentic Kolsch ale yeast while featuring German perle and tettnanger hops." 4.7% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Clear yellow body. Lots of bubble activity. Fizzy thin off-white head. Retention is okay at 2-3 minutes.

AROMA: 2-row or 6-row (i.e. generic malt sweetness). Corn. Dry biscuity saccharomyces. Hints of grass. Suggests a neutral dry brew lacking the delicate flavours of a proper Kolsch. Aromatic intensity is average. Not particularly appealing.

TASTE: Poor for an ostensible Kolsch. No delicate yeast notes/spice, no well showcased subtle German hops, no clean malt backbone. Just dry 6-row and some honeyed pilsner malt. Ugh.

OVERALL: An awful American attempt at a difficult-to-execute subtle German style. Overly sweet. Misses the mark completely. Even cheater Kolsch style ales brewed without true Kolsch yeast often come out better than this.

D / AVOID

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Clear yellow body with a thin head and no lacing. Slightly sweet grassy smell. The taste was crisp and clean. Seemed a bit flat, maybe the can was on the shelf too long. Would not mind trying on draft.

Poured from 12 ounce can into pint glass. Very bright yellow in color, with good head that dissipates quickly. Has the traditional Koslch flavors, light bodied, slightly sweet with a clean finish. Very easy drinking beer with great Koslch taste.

Beautiful, deep golden, nearly amber color with just a trace of quick fading head. It has moderate carbonation and a light body that is well balanced between the floral hops and unique Kolsch malt. There is a nice lingering tartness. If it had a slightly heavier body, this would be perfect. I recommend letting it warm a bit. The flavors become much more pronounced and complex. Tasty.
