This old food truck finally got a brick and mortar place. This is a perfectly laid back and charming bungalow in the Heights. Original hard wood everywhere. Great outdoor seating with a patio out back and deck in the front, that are as good as any in the area. A small bar that seats maybe 6-7 people comfortably. It fits in perfectly with the neighborhood.
Not the most extensive selection, but all quality. Six taps that rotates Texas crafts. Real Ale Phoenix, Karbach Mother In Lager, Yellow Rose, and a few more when I visited. The bottle selection is very nice as well. Prairie Artisan and Founders being the big non Texas offerings. A very worthy selection. Correct temps, glassware, and clean lines.
Service can be a bit awkward at first. I was taking advantage of the outdoor area, but nobody came by. Then I realized it is counter service if you are not sitting at the bar. Which is perfectly fine, I just did not recognize the register by the kitchen and nobody informed me. Anyway, once you get your order in, kitchen times are good, and everybody working here seems knowledgeable and friendly.
While the small beer menu is nice, the show here are the hot dogs. The unique, made to order beef and pork dog and completely home made condiments are great. You can't say enough about homemade everything, that includes pickled peppers, dill slices, homemade relish and sauerkraut, and cheeses from Houston Dairy Maids. Right now, my favorite is the Chi-Town Dog. If not in a beer mood, the lavender lemonade is amazeballs.
Just the kind of spot I wanted to take over here once Big Mamou closed. I will need to make more trips often.
