A tribute to the highly drinkable "every day" beers from French-speaking Belgium. Contains Belgian two-row pale malt and 7% wheat. This beer is lightly filtered with an earthy, spicy hop character from imported Styrian Goldings hops and a beautiful rich creamy head from the wheat.

16oz pint glass on tap at the Cloverleaf Tavern on 7/7/11.

Flying Fish Farmhouse Summer Ale pours a brilliantly clear sunshine yellow. There's a bit of wispy white foam sitting atop the beer, but it vanishes without a trace pretty quickly. The nose has some of grainy sweetness, but almost smells a bit like some corn product was used as an adjunct. There's also a small earthy-noble hop note to the aroma. The flavor is almost identical, same grain, corn, and hoppy points get hit on. Bitterness is pretty much nonexistent mid palate. If anything I'd say the hops are just a touch more present here (to the beer's credit), but it's really not enough of a difference that I can bump taste up to the next score. The body is surpremely light, makes it very drinkable/thirst quenching for the hot weather. The carbonation, if measured in volumes, would probably be a bit on the low side. However, when paired with this thin (and I say that with no negative connotation) body, it definitely pops a little and adds some liveliness. The great mouthfeel makes me wish the flavor profile was a little more fine tuned on Flying Fish's Farmhouse Summer Ale, because I think then it would make close to an ideal summer beer.

Plays the part with a nice golden color with wet head and lace and the de riguer biscuit note repping the nose. Bit of astringent graininess on the back end damages the flavor profile. Also a bit gritty in the texture. Seems like they were going for a bit of a Belgian spice thing but it went off the tracks. Pass.

Poor taste and a poor look. Flying fish seem to have alot of possibility with their brand but recently they seem to be lacking. This is just like drinking a bud lite. Sorry to say.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into an Accomplice IPA glass

L: Clear light golden pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head. Thin rim of lacing.

S: Grainy... mild citrus.

T/F: Strong grain/light malts dominate the brew. A little sweet and biscuity. Mild spice and lemongrass. Light and drinkable. Well carbonated.

O: A pretty middle-of-the-road kinda beer. Easy drinking... flavor wasn't my speed, but I do like the low ABV and sessionability. Certainly not one to seek out... I'd have it again if offered.
