12oz. bottle poured into pint glass.
A: Pours a pristine golden color with a slight haziness from tiny speckles of floating sediment. A creamy off-white head is short lived as it eventually dwindles to a silky smooth cap, leaving decent amounts of abstract-looking lacing down the glass. Head retention leaves a bit to be desired, even with the nice lacing.
S: The scent is a bit weak with very light floral hop aromas and a bit of citrus zest. Lots of caramel malts underneath as well, if my sniffer doesn't deceive me. This would have scored higher if I didn't have to nearly dip my nose in to pick up what was going on.
T: Very malty up front with a bit of breadiness. The hop bitterness comes through in a very weak wave that just barely washes over the malt. It seems a bit backwards for the style. Very malty with some understated hop and grassy bitterness in the finish. Some alcohol spice tends to linger in the aftertaste.
M: Medium-full bodied with a fairly average-level carbonation. Lightly creamy and flows silky smooth across the palate. Lots of drinkability here.
O: This one straddles the line of good/okay. It's not unenjoyable by any means, but it's just not what you'd expect from an IPA. It has a strong maltiness and a very restrained hop presence. It drinks extremely well and tastes good, which makes this a prime contender for a session ale at a bar, but it's not something I'd pick up again for the pleasure of home-consumption. Good beer overall, slightly weak by IPA standards.
