Picked this up at Total Wine/ Tempe, awesome store. Had some of these guys Exit Series, and was excited to try one of the regulars. Nice amber pour, nice caramel soft nose. This is a very creamy and smooth beer, and very tasty. This is the kind of beer i wish there were more of, smooth, tasty, and under 7% so you can have a few. Very highly recommend this, it's in AZ for all you CA folks...i will be picking up more of this when I head back down.

Poured into a standard pint a slightly hazed burnt orange with a thinner long lasting white head,a big sweetish biscuit malt base reallty stood out at first sniff than herbal/leafy hop comes thru.Flavors of caramel and sweet biscuit mixed with herbal hops makes for a pretty good EIPA,this is what this beer is all about. Its not a bad beer for the style,if your looking for an in your face hoppy IPA this is not for you.

On tap at the Grey Lodge. Warm and honey golden, semi clouded but still clear... makes me think of chill haze... Whitish head, nice and creamy, settled down to a thin ring and a huge cloud in the center that almost met the corners. Sweet hoppiness floating out. Nice carbination. Very nice amount of hoppiness and bite with caramelly sweetness. Very good feel and flavor.
-On a side note, I had this one back on 1/10/05, brought to me and a buddy as a favor who wanted to try something unfiltered. (Thanks J!) Had my review sitting in a drawer to wait until I had the finished product. Funny that my numbers are exactly the same.
For the unfiltered: Unclear homemade iced tea towards amber, maybe more the color of a LongIsland iced tea. Cannot see my fingers on the other side of the glass. Just a bit of medium/large white bubbles at the edges of the glass and a light dusting. Semi soured scents (alliteration anyone?) Can’t really feel the carbonation in this version, but yet it doesn’t feel flat, more like I am drinking a cold cask-conditioned. I like low carbonation, so this is good. Very smooth and low to medium bodied. Nicely hoppy, grapefruit and biteyness, tastes of gin.bit of caramel sweetness, almost honey-like. Lots of flavor going on. Easy drinker.

Appearance: 1/2 inch head, cloudy, orange/brown in color, high carbonation

Smell: floral hops, earth--similar to a Greenhouse Yankee Candle

Taste: earthy, greenhouse, floral hops and some caramel malt

Mouthfeel: light bodied, high carbonation, sweetish start--bitter middle with a finish that gets sweeter, dry

Drinkability: I could have several. Just a great earthy, floral beer that is not overly hopped. One of the more distinct IPAs I have had that I wish I could get here.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours a light golden with very little head. Not too hoppy on the nose, quite malty. There's a bit of lacing but not much else to speak of.

Taste is like an oktoberfest, mmm. Looks like the hops have fallen out but this isn't bad I think it's quite tasty.

Amber color, white head, decent lace. All good.
Aroma, belgian yeast, banana, no hops. Label checked, not a belgian ipa. Smells belgian.

Taste, tastes like a belgian east coast ipa. Hops nowhere to be found. Notice here it says English ipa, doesn't say that on the label, in fact, calling itself hopfish makes me think it might have, well, hops in it, but no.

This isn't a bad beer, it just fails to deliver as advertised. If this said "Belgian IPA" I would rate it higher, as it would be actually tasting like it was intended. The yeast was really the biggest flavor component here, bready, grassy.

Hides the alcohol ok.

served in pint glass

A - hazy and orangish amber with a good, off-white head.

S - hops more than malts, but not completely dominant. Tropical fruits, with more fruitiness than a typical English IPA>.

Taste: Hops and malt both evident; especially the crisp piney and fresh tasting hops. Good balance. Not sweet, but the aromatics bring honey to mind.

M - moderate carbonation; slight tongue burn

O- Easy to drink. More than just drinkable but not worth seeking out.

(Revised with 12 oz bottle consumed in October 2013)

On-tap at Drinker's in Philadelphia.

Pours a hazy copper color with a half-finger slightly off-white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of muted pale malts with moderate amounts of citrus and leafy hop aromas.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though both malt and hop influences are more robust. Mildly sweet pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by citrus hop flavors. Midway through the sip the citrus flavors fade just a bit and the hops turn slightly toward the bitter side with the addition of leafy and earthy flavors. The hops carry through to a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with solid carbonation.

Drinkability is OK. I finished my glass with no problems however I'm not entirely sure about another.

Overall this was a middle-of-the-road IPA, nothing done terribly and nothing done terribly well either. Not worth seeking out but if there are no other options (as was the case at Drinker's) it's not a bad choice.

Thanks to NJpadreFan for this extra.

12oz. brown bottle poured into a pint. No dating.

A: Pours a golden amber with good visibility. 1 finger of rocky, slightly off white head forms and turns to a fluffy pillow on top. Some patchy lacing.

S: Very subtle. Nice spring flowers after a rain and some citrus peel resins.

T/M: Has a strange tartness to the bitterness. A kind of warped citrus flavor that has a lemon peel taste. Malts are unpleasantly sweet with a raw grain taste and more of that strange bitterness. Body is a bit too light and carbonation is fairly high.

D: This one just didn't do it for me. Thanks anyway, Alan :)

On cask at the Grey Lodge in NE Philly. I had a sample of this after thinking it was the Puckerfish. I was disappointed to not be able to try the Puckerfish but the Hopfish is also a nice beer. The beer poured a nice golden / amber color with a slight head. The aroma is of strong hops with a bit of fruitness and malts. The taste is a bit of a hop bomb but it balanced out well with the sweetness of the malts. With a medium body, this beer is pretty drinkable from what I had sampled.
