Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a nice head that sticks reasonably well and leaves a few dots of lace, too
Smell: As one would expect from a hoppy red, the aroma has both caramel malt and piney hop elements
Taste: The malt jumps out front, with caramel flavors leading off; by mid-palate, some fruit and piney hops arrive to add a multi-layered, bitter dimension; after the swallow, while both the sweet and better elements are present, I would give a nod to the bitterness being dominant; also some minty flavors in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: This is a really nice beer from the folks at Flying Fish, who are always concerned about drinkability rather than being at the extremes; this beer shows that they can pack quite a lot of flavor, without pushing it outside the boundaries; that might not satisfy everyone around this site, but that does not make it any less worthy
