750ml bottle received as a great extra in a recent trade with BOLTZ7555. Thanks! Poured into a Duvel tulip.
A - Pours quite hazy, just below the murky point with a dirty, orangey brown color. A thick frothy two finger head lingers for a long time and leaves lots of sticky spiderwebs on the glass.
S - Has a pretty strong Lipton instant iced tea character going up front, complete with lemon. Some fruity and citrusy hops layered on top and some caramel malt around the edges.
T - Pretty hoppy on first sip, with a solid but not dominant hop bitterness. Still maintains the iced tea impressions of the aroma too. Fairly noticeable alcohol flavor as well with some citrusy/lemony fruitiness too. Sweet caramel malt at the base and into the finish. The tea flavors give this a bit of an overall "off" flavor to it. Distracting at times and maybe a bit more than that at times.
M - Medium bodied with a good strong carbonation that remains smooth but gives enough of a tingle on the tongue. Alcohol is plenty noticeable but I wouldn't go so far as to call it boozy.
O - Definitely not my favorite in the Exit Series. Ultimately the tea qualities of this one prove too much for my palate/senses. I've noticed this in other beers a couple of other times. Haven't been able to narrow it down to a yeast strain/hop/malt that delivers this character. Glad to have the opportunity to try this and continue my work towards completing this series. I'm figuring plenty of people out there are going to enjoy this more than I did...think I have an extra sensitivity to something in there. Solid and well brewed...just not my thing.
