On tap at Monk's Mad Monday 9 May 2011

along with other specialty batches like bourbon dubbel and bourbon exit 13, casey hughes brought this so we could enjoy some EXCELLENT brews while we buy our tickets for the russian river beer dinner during philly beer week.

A-in a standard tulip, 6 w/brett was a hazy gold with a thick, 2 inch head that sat well for most of a half minute until it slowly dissipated, leaving a spongy residue around the glass. not very effervescent, but pretty standard looking for a belgian style pale ale.

S-smelled of flower meadows, clover honey, banana, some pale wheat, coriander, hint of orange, belgian yeast, and a very potent brett funk that rounded up all the other aromas in an envelope of balanced sweetness/funk. really impressive.

T-wow. wow. brilliant. sweet, a little spike in tartness, bretty, noticeably bretty. sweetness from the grains that yields some pear, peach, banana, spices. the rye doesn't take a back seat from the brett like i'd imagine, but it's present in a lightly bready capacity. so balanced. so amazing. likened this to damnation but with more of a rounded sweetness.

M-very smooth and creamy. the funk leaves a tinge, but the finish is mellow and refined. really refined: sweet then slightly dry.

I've dreamed of this one ever since, and i didn't get a chance to ask casey hughes why this couldn't be bottled or why i can't always have this whenever i want. it was that good. i hope to one day find this again, because it was truly delicious. as above, i likened this beer to damnation, but being from jersey myself, i'm still quite prideful with this one.
