Red Fish is a hoppy red ale. Columbus, Chinook and Cascade hops give the beer a robust piney nose. Two-row, crystal and cara-red malts give the beer a malty background and a 7% abv.

A - Clear Red to amber, good head stays at the top, thin lacing. Appealing.

S - Smells like a classic red, cant complain (i suck at picking at the notes of scents)

T - Tastes like a classic red, again I like red, so boon!

M - Smooth, drinkable (i usually hate this word sadly), not highly carbonated, good feel.

O - Cant complain. It does not wow me, but I do not feel slighted by this beer. It's light hoppy character makes me feel like I can recommend this beer as an everyday beer for someone who does not like the full bitter and hoppyness of IPAs.

Amber/copper, nice head and just enough lacing, this ale had a old-school malt backbone that feels like home. Like my other favorites, it is a strong ale that can bring on a grin with just a couple glasses and has a piney fragrance and pine forest/cornfield earth finish which is a personal preference over floral and citrus heavy IPAs and DIPAs.
It used to be my go-to beer when it was available in SE PA across the Delaware river from the brewer. It disappeared a couple years ago and I'm not surprised as this baby was VERY unhappy past it's shelf date.
When I purchased from different outlets a couple times, without checking the dates first, it was a completely different and very unsatisfying beer. I can't imagine how many potential drinkers got turned off simply by buying outdated stock.
When I lived near an outlet where one of two of us fans routinely bought a case and kept fresh stock moving in, I was in beer heaven. This is a case where I wish the brewer either managed their stock better or were more discriminate in their distribution. RIP Red Fish :-(

Sixteen ounce can copped from Bottle King of Livingston. Pours a copper, amber hue with maximum frothing. Ardent aroma redolent of biscuits and molasses. Good stuff. Recommended.

Great beer! Such a shame they stopped producing it. It should be listed under Red IPAs.

This is a great beer. It's a shame they stopped making them, however.
It looks dark brown, and looks nothing like some of the other red ales I've had, but looks don't matter when you drink them from the bottle.
The taste is great from the bottle, but if you pour it in a cup, it can go flat/run out of fizz a bit while drinking.
Tastes delicious, and is a great beer from the bottle. This beer is scores better than your average beer.

The only Flying Fish beers I've ever been able to enjoy prior to this one have been brought up to me by good friends from the mid-Atlantic area, so to see some stuff, however basic, on shelves in my proximity was quite a welcome sight. I opted to grab a single bottle of Redfish (formerly had a space in there, apparently?) to try out this brewery's normal offerings. This bottle has a best-by date of 2/12/20, which seems fair (probably a four-month BB date), and their website says it is hopped using Columbus, Chinook, and Cascade. Sounds good to me.

Pour is kinda the definitive "red IPA" appearance, starting off with a deep orange pour with some caramel undertones. When held up to direct light, it seems to get a slightly golden sheen to it... in other words, of course it's not "red," but it's quite a few SRM darker than a typical IPA, that's for sure. Clarity is somewhere between completely transparent and mildly-hazy, landing this beer on the "filtered" side of the spectrum. Given that it's been around for like 7 years at this point, though, that's hardly a surprise. Decent cap of slightly off-white/beige foam with moderate lace and good legs. Hazy surface all over.

Nose is dank and spicy hops with fresh evergreen pine needles and light oniony notes surrounding a medium toasty caramel malt base. Oh ya, this is straight old-school red IPA. It reminds me of Nugget Nectar with slightly more malt balance. Maybe a bit more like that brewery's HopBack Amber with a higher-octane build? Touches of grapefruit and bready grains in there. Some slight sniffs of cocoa powder. Enjoyable and reminds me of simpler times.

Flavor has a little bit of a clean "lager"-like character to it for some reason. It almost reminds me of a Sam Adams beer with its light dusty yeasty note and clean profile. I pick up strong suggestions of pine resin, bread dough, caramel, baking spices, red grapefruit rind, and slight backing elements of green onion and leather. Semi-apparent alcohol for its moderately-high 7% ABV, but the feel is clean and lighter-than-expected. Pretty dry and crisp with solid carbonation. Hopping doesn't feel aggressive despite the powerful nose, and the overall feel is laid-back. I think this seems a bit underrated on this site, honestly, but it's also not spectacular. I wouldn't pass it up, but I feel no strong desire to revisit it, honestly.

Big rocky head and appropriately copper color. Nose is toasted malt and pine and citrus hops. Very pungent.

Very sweet throughout but also blasted with pine needle hop flavors. Not quite the smoothest mixture. There is a spiciness I can't really recognize. It isn't rye but it's something interesting. A little thick in texture for the style.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Clear copper pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head.

S: Toasted grains... malts and piney hops.

T/F: Semi-sweet toasted malts up front. Nice bitter hops... pine forward with earthy character and a bit of citrus. Medium to light bodied... ABV hidden.

O: A solid hoppy red ale. Easy drinking and decent flavor.

The Flying Fish Red Ale is pretty tasty lots of nice lacing on the glass when poured into a pint glass color is a medium hazy orangish brown Hoppy aroma excellent carbonation taste hints of citrus a little metallic slightly alcohol overall generally easy to drink at 7% ABV. Lastly, I purchased a case of this ale for $18 because it was out of date and did not affect the brew in the least.....
