500ml bottle from Allanwater Brewery:
Copper with a thumb sized, slightly off-white colour that quickly settles as a bubbly & patchy lacing around the edges.

Biscuit malt aroma with some fruity undertones and a musky aroma and some earthy notes. There is a little burnt sugar and some earthy and citrus hops rounding it off.

Earthy hops and malts to kick things off with a slight hint of citrus and some biscuit malts. There is a moderate bitter taste throughout and the beer has a few hints of various fruits coming through as well before being finished off with a pleasant caramel taste.

Medium bodied and obviously bitter in taste with some hints of sweetness coming from the caramel and sugar as well as the hints of fruit. There is good carbonation and dry finish with a nice tang to it.

Not a bad beer and better than I was expecting going in. Probably not one I'd be likely to pick up all that often but it is a nice bitter and one that I wouldn't mind having again. (977 characters)

Purchased a bottle of this at the Wallace Monument in Scotland. Poured a very pleasant deep red colour with a small white head. Aroma is relatively faint, but what's there is malty and just a bit smoky. Flavour is pleasant - this is a very drinkable beer that reminds me more of a Scotch Ale than an ESB, if it weren't for its strength (or lack of) and the wee bit of English hop tartness in there. Good stuff! (410 characters)
