Got a glass at the Stormbreaker Brewery.

Appearance- a thin creamy white head when served, with some minimal lacing. On the darker end of IPA colors.

Smell- citrus and pine smells are dominant, almost all hop aroma, very little malt smell

Taste- malty, Carmel and biscuit flavors at the front end are followed by a strong hoppy bite. The hops are citrusy, and quite bitter (although not too much for hop-heads like myself). This is not a sweet DIPA, and has just the right amount of dryness.

Mouthfeel- a bit thinner than I've come to expect in DIPAs, probably more along the line of most strong IPAs.

Overall- Hop flavors are dominant throughout, as one would expect with the style, but enough malt backbone to support it. A very nice beer.

Amber color, minimal lacing, fine carbonation. Scent with notes of piney hops and malt. Bold flavor with a forward sweet malty-ness and hoppy finish. Smooth with refreshing carbonation. Very drinkable for a double IPA.

On tap at the Bier Stein last night.

The beer pours a copper orange color with good head retention and decent lacing. Those is attractive as well, as I pick up some dry citrus, light graham cracker and some underling tropical fruit as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, and this beer seemed to grow on me as I went along. Initially, I was sure there was sufficient hoppy bitterness to handle the fairly sweet malt on the mid palate, but I think the glass of Sump I had prior to this DIPA might have had something to do with that. This DIPA is actually quite well balanced, which enhanced the beer's drinkability I thought. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a long, delightfully bitter finish. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, which again, I thought enhanced this beer's drinkability.

This is the first beer I've had from this new to me Portland brewery, and based on what I sampled last night, I'm interested in trying some more offerings from them. Nicely done.
