The best beer baa none!
An exceptional continental style beer with good body and refreshing aftertaste.

Judging by the label, I first thought this was from New Zealand.. :-P
Seriously now...
Pours a big frothy white head, good glass-clinging lace. Clear golden colour, very appealing.
Herbaceous/citrus-peel aromas, with some slight cumin seed. Sweet pale malt notes as well.
Very spicy flavour profile, with cumin, nutmeg & white pepper....god knows what else. Malt is understated, although it warms into a bready flavour.
Quite a light mouthfeel, easy to quaff.
Probably a good food ale, with fried chicken or Indian tikka.

Feb. 2016: 500 ml bottle, from Matkroken Stokka. BB date 28.04.2014. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of grain and dust, a hint of fruit. Fairly refreshing flavour, lagerish with a slight citrussy fruitiness. Will rerate when I have a fresher bottle.

The funny marketing doesn't deliver on Taste.
This Gold Looks lots like a lager. Mild fruity Smells tell me it is an ale. Tastes tell me it is balanced and sessionable, but not worth the calories of a second. (As my weight is becoming unbalanced.) And Gold sits in my mouth softly. But much like the entire experience, it really is not above average.

Because this beer one among many, I went on Cairngorm's website to see their secret. Turns out, they are about to start their third decade in a remote place about 2/3 of the way to the northern end of Scotland. For this long, they have been producing beers for people visiting them and enough to export south to stay in business. For that sort of persistence, I'm giving them some above average hugs.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, floral, grassy and hint of biscuit. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with a grassy, floral finish. Body is light to medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft to fizzy

Format: a stumpy 500mL brown bottle with an okay British label. The bottle tells me that this is "The best beer baa none" - I guess we'll see.

Appearance: pours pure amber in colour with plenty of fast-rising carbonation. A half-finger white head drops quickly to a decent cap and ring.

Aroma: some sweet grain with light toffee and a touch of yeast. Lacks oomph, as a lot of EPAs do on the nose.

Taste: quite a bit sweeter than I was expecting - buttery hopscotch and toffee with grain behind.

Aftertaste: the finish starts to get a bit cloying in its sweetness if drunk too quickly. Otherwise, a touch of lingering sweet malts and grains.

Mouth feel: medium in body with a medium to higher carbonation. Oddly for an English style of beer, I think this could use a little less carbonation.

Overall: quite a drinkable English Pale Ale, even if the sweetness does get a bit cloying after a while. My main problem is the same as with all British beers in Australia - it is $87 for a case of 12 x 500mL, making my usual equivalent case of 24 x 330mL $115. God I hate our massive alcohol taxes. The beer would be fine if it was about 60% of the cost.

Light golden amber, small foamy white head that leaves some lacing on glass.

Malts, caramel, lighter aromas such as honey, vanilla and some butterscotch.

Sweet with some light caramel and vanilla flavours, some light honey & some bitter hops. There is a little citrus and some floral, grassy hops too.

A light medium bodied beer with a smooth texture and an overall sweetness. Carbonation is about medium and easy to drink.

This one was quite a nice, sweet tasting beer with a good mix of flavours and good balance between them. Drinkability was good and the beer had a nice, smooth and easy to drink feel to it.

Pours gold with a small fading head.
Nose shows faint caramel and floral notes. Pretty subtle.
Flavours include nutty malt, caramel and faint vegetal notes. Again, pretty restrained.
Body feels a bit watery.
Not a bad beer but pretty underwhelming stuff.
