A surprisingly well-brewed AIS. Let me explain.
I have been a Big Fan of Middle Brow because of their saison/pizza/bread synergy. They were Wallonia in West Bucktown. (I looked forward to going only a mile to find their Kvass renditions and score their breads.) When they got into Wilds, I could still drink around that; but I preferred them to stick to their rustic roots and focus on non-Brett yeast. But, they didn't and my enthusiasm waned. We became distant, despite being only a mile apart.
Like a forlorn former lover, I saw a can of Milk Eyed Mender beseeching me; sitting lonesome on the shelf. Feeling sorry for both of us, I bought it... and was pleasantly surprised. It ignited the old flame.
MEM Looks common. Smells are pretty good for a milk stout. Tastes are balanced, not sweet but also not a hint of hops. (How do they do that?) Feel is a suitable substitute for dessert... but I think I'll have some anyway.
Now my tenth BA review for Middle Brow, I've spent some time thinking about what makes them tick. And I must confess: I do not know. So, the best solution is to get a pizza-kit and a 4-pack of Robyn to go and wait out the pandemic. A sante' !

Kegged summer 2015; drank 6/25/15 on draft @ Fischman's.
Black/brown appearance.
Minimal khaki head; minimal lace.
Milk chocolate & cream notes in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Caramel & cream flavors up front; on the finish, a nice cinnamon smack on the lips. No booze heat.
Certainly above average; enjoyable.

Dark cola, near black body, with a foamy head resembling wet sand or the apex of a root beer float. A potpourri of spices on the initial nose. Milk chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla ice cream. Assertive carbonation leaves a prickly sensation late palate. Alcohol warmth with lingering spice and notes of roast.

Nice beer. Along the lines of prairie bomb. Similar profile. Not thick. No head. Chili taste. I do think prairie does it better though. But a great chili beer.

A-a very very dark, almost black, with a thin layer of tan colored head
S-milk chocolate and cinnamon spice
T-milk chocolate, cinnamon, some lactose, and pepper
M-light to medium body and light carbonation
Overall a very light imperial stout, nice combination of chocolate and cinnamon, but much too light for my liking

Pours moderately thick with less than half a finger of head and minimal lacing. Vanilla yogurt on the nose, with the subtlest hints of cinnamon and chiles. A bit more pepper on the palate, with some cream and banana from the lactose. Mild but pleasant.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 5/1/17.
Pours a dark brown, hazy and mostly opaque, with no real head and some spotty lacing. Smells of cocoa, malt, vanilla, peppers, light orange. All the add-ins stand out nicely. The taste is malt, cocoa, vanilla, chocolate, peppers, a light bitterness. The orange fades quickly. The flavor is not as expressive or intense as the aroma. Smooth, fairly creamy, appropriately carbonated, a decent medium body-but a touch thin feeling.
Pretty good, but needs more depth of flavor and a little fuller of a body. Worth a try.

Pours a black color. Two inch head of an tan color. Great retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong chocolate, strong sweet malt, alcohol, piney hops, hint of roasted malt, and a hint of yeast. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with a high carbonation level. Tastes of strong chocolate, strong sweet malt, strong alcohol, piney hops, and a hint of roasted malt. Overall, good aroma, blend, and body, but too carbonated and average appearance.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a 14 oz. non-beveled glass.
APPEARANCE–black, opaque, no real head to speak of, swirls of floating light tan bubbles, fading tan legs when swirled
AROMA–vanilla & peppers mingle together, bitter orange peel dances around, cacao nibs hang out in the background as vanilla takes more of the spotlight, hints of savoy herbs like thyme & basil
TASTE–punch of savory from the peppers up front, not spicy, but peppery flavor-wise, vegetal, sweetness only comes through in the mid-palate, lingering bitterness, bitter cacao & raw vanilla bean, roast malt comes across more charred than expected, though not exactly burnt, not hot, no real hint at the 10.3%
MOUTHFEEL–thinner than expected, malt heft seems to have taken a backseat to the adjuncts, bordering on watery for the style
