I must confess that I know matt who grew the hops right here in the garden state (his first harvest of hopefully many!), PS thanks Terri for the growler !
eyes...
Golden to amber hue, a steady stream of carbonation rises up, the head settles in at about one finger with a nice meniscus as this thing is clingy like a horny dog, head retention is very good and lacing is also great, slightly cloudy but not especially, a very nice looking batch of ale
nose...
for a wet hop (the hops were harvested and driven right over to the brewery) I seem to want a bigger stink on this, it is not bad per se but I love me some DIPAs with some kickas, faint pine, some nice green hop tones, slight notes of sweet fruit (mango etc), a tinge of orange, nothing special but not bad
taste etc...
pretty aggressive bitterness, just a tad short of say Stone Ruination, the alcohol is pretty much on the hot side but manages to hide just enough to not overtake the beer, it is pretty damn near the line though (holy burning sensation in my belly beerman!), this gets better as it warms (more hop flavor), pretty light considering the heft here - none of that over syrupy tone that can drag down a lot of strong DIPAs, the carbonation is perfect for me (just prickly enough to tickle the tongue but subdued enough to not create a belching bastard), this is pretty damn easy to quaff... but it seems the dominant factor here is bitterness with a spackle of alcohol, I don't love it but it is not bad (the tropical fruit flavors seem to dominate more as this goes, I would like to see a little more alpha in my pie hole)
verdict?
great to see some local product, I know the effort that went into researching climate and soil studies to produce the hops, I hope they will be a little more up front in the future, this beer is a good DIPA, not great but it does make the mark in certain categories where so many fail (body and carbonation). If you are going to go with the clever big time name you better bring the hop action and pound my face with it, this is more like hop and awwwww, worth checking out if you are in the area, this thing does pack quite the devil of a jersey punch (see what I did there, a jersey devil joke, get it?)

On draught at the brewery. 12 oz. pour served in s fluted glass. It pours a clear reddish-amber with a creamy, ecru-colored head and lots of lacing. Not much to the nose; mostly malt and some muted floral hops. This is an English/Southern style IPA and is malt-forward with pronounced caramel up front. However, as it warms in the glass there is increasing bitter, resinous hops but very little fruit presence. The sweetness and bitterness are well-balanced. The bitterness also increases as the ale warms in the glass. It boasts a really nice mouth feel: viscous and creamy with moderate carbonation, and it drinks surprisingly easily for its 10/3% ABV. Overall, Hop-N-Awe is a good example of an English malty IPA. It's nicely crafted, well-balanced, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a mostly dark orange color with a thin white foamy cap of a head. Glossy tight lace. The aroma pummels my nose with a huge solid piney bitterness. Luckily, a nice effort from some citrusy/melon subtle sweetness ends up coming in to bring down that bitter piney-ness. The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned aromas to blend slightly and then charge right on into the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, they weren’t kidding when they said this one "will lay siege to your senses," haha, okay then, I get it, joke must be on me. Still, I think I could come back to this one.

1- or 2-day-old 32 oz growler poured into snifter
A - Dark amber, almost a reddish copper. Head disappeared quickly (due to age?), faint-to-moderate lacing.
S - Very fruity, grapefruit and oranges, some apples and cinnamon in the background.
T - Sharp, piney, resiny; strong malt backbone with some pretzel notes but the hops are dominant. Hops, leather, slight fruitiness linger in the aftertaste. Starts to taste like grapefruit bubblegum as it warms up.
M - Nice balance of silkiness and carbonation
O - The alcohol is well behaved given the ABV but probably explains some of the sharpness in the taste. Good stuff!

This beer is an exceptional example of very drinkable IPA. The smell and appearance are great and the taste is fantastic...hoppy but not overpowering. The mouthfeel is smooth, and gets exponentially better as the serving temperature is dropped. Overall this is one of the best IPAs that I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Looking forward to seeing it on tap at more local establishments
