On cask at the North Market Microbrew Festival.
This is an Imperial Stout brewed specifically for the barrel, aged on cocoa nibs to help mellow the alcohol bite.
Black and thick. Tall head, very dark color to it. Bubbles are a bit airy and don't hold up over time.
Smells sweet, man. The base stout was extremely sweet as well. Lots of chocolate (both from the cocoa but also the base stout). Sweet peanut hull aromas and some ash is in there as well.
Wow is there a lot going on here. Very sweet, loads of gritty chocolate fudge and truffle powder. Malts are bready and sweet, I am reminded of raisin bread. The bourbon is very mellow. It seems to be adding more marshmallow than alcohol flavor.
THICK. Syrupy, like molasses. Also a bit of gritty chocolate.
Overall a very nice beer, but the sweetness was too much for me.

The look of this beer hasn't changed much after being aged in bourbon and conditioned with cocoa nibs. Its still super thick looking with a really tall head.
Lots of sugary chocolate. Burnt sugars, a roasted nuttiness and a little snap of alcohol. Bourbon is not too powerful, it seems to add some sweeter notions of char, burnt sugar and a smoothed over earthiness.
I can't specifically pick out the cocoa nibs, but I think they are playing into the roasted nuttiness this beer has. They might also be part of the rich chocolate flavors that are present.
Full bodied, this beer is still chewy, thick and syrupy. Alcohol is there, but is never a problem.
A nice stab at a BA stout, but I can tell this beer is out of the comfort zone of the guys at CBC.
