A balanced American IPA. Smooth, light maltiness, with a touch of honey and granola. Hops are vibrant and bracing, yet light on the palate. Lemon peel, tropical fruit, and spruce dominate the bouquet.

Bottle was either infected or was one of the last bottles in the run. There was a thick stripe of yellow going up the side of the bottle and it was caked on the inside of the cap.

Pours a golden color with a slight orange tint to it, decent sized white head that fades quickly, some patchy lacing on the glass.

Smell has a strong piney aroma, very hop forward, sweet malt backing is noticeable after the hops waft away.

Taste start out with the piney hop bitterness, good pine aftertaste throughout, sweet malt less noticeable in the flavor than it was in the nose, finishes dry with the pine lasting to the end, slightly resiny body with medium carbonation levels, never too sticky and rather refreshing

This is a very solid IPA, citrus/grapefruit presence may be lacking but the the pine makes up for it.

Grapefruit nose and matching citrus followthrough, had this on tap close to the source at Springvale Publick House. This is the type of IPA that really works for me. Well balanced and smooth.

Pint on draft at Dahlia's in Biddeford, Maine, an ill restaurant you should eat at.

Appearance: Pours a relatively clear yellow/gold with a two-inch white head that recedes to film and then sticks around for the duration.

Aroma: Though slightly muted for an IPA, the nose has apricot, grapefruit, pineapple and pine. Malt is pretty far in the background.

Taste: This is a hop-forward beer with a nice lemon and grapefruit taste. It's refreshing and smooth.

Mouthfeel: Very easy on the palate. Not a "big" beer, but a good one.

Overall: People tend to get fussy about the term "session IPA," but that's basically what this is, and it's quite decent. I had it with a Field Roast reuben and it was a great pairing. I definitely want more beers from Banded Horn, whose logo is awesome.

Good golden color with a white head.
Crisp, clear smell of citrus
Great citrus taste with following of hop bitterness, but not over powering. Very good balance
Mouthfeel is smooth, not heavy
Overall, an outstanding addition to the ranks of American IPAs.

Grapefruit Citrus aroma.
Somewhat malty, 'east coast style' IPA. It's got a dry piny finish to it. Overall, a solid and tasty example of the style.

This was originally rated when BA chose to forgo the rating system. I have kept the commentary below, but the immediately follow review was created on 6/5/15.

The head (this time) is very impressive--at least four fingers thick. It settles slowly and in a rocky fashion. Very lumpy, large spots on the glass for lace. The liquid is dirty gold and clear.

Mild earthy and light hop aromas.

Earthy and very bitter are the first impressions...much stronger than the smell suggests. Leans to the rich, body-wise, but there's a good carbonation level to balance it out. Long, dry aftertaste.

Small head that settles to rim bubbles. Some spots for lace. Cloudy, dirty gold color. 3.75/5

Pleasant floral hop aroma 4/5

A bit of pineapple and white pepper in the swallow. Long, bitter aftertaste. Short, mild toast upfront from the malt. 3.75/5 Above average body with an elevated carbonation level. 3.75/5 pretty smooth overall. 4/5

Bottle from Bier Cellar Portland.
Pours a lightly hazy deep golden color with a huge fluffy white head that shows great retention.Earthy herbal citrus with a beady backdrop. Moderate carbonation and bitterness. Decent IPA I would never turn one down.

Bought a single to try while on vacation in Maine

No date in the "bottled on" box on the label.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Jever pilsener glass.

a: Translucent dark gold with an inch and a half thick white head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense lacing.

s: Pretty strong citrus and pine resin

t: Pine resin up front with moderate plus strength over a medium bready malt base. Bitterness lingers somewhat.

m: Light to medium, slight watery hints, lots of carbonation tingle.

o: A solid quality IPA,, tasty and satisfying.
