Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a very dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is malty, bready. Taste is full of malts, nutty, bready, some light hops are present, kind of mild. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a decent beer, but nothing special.

Pours a dark brown with a light tan head that leaves spotty lacing. Aroma is mildly fruity and mild toasted malt. Taste is lightly toasted malt, a hint of chocolate, and smoke. Quick finish of cocoa and toasty malt. Light body, thin and watery palate, light to average carbonation. Fairly weak and somewhat disappointing to my palate.

I am not a fan of this beer. It isn't even really better than the big AALs, just different, IMHO.
For me, this is a miss for Newcastle in their desire to bring something else to the table in the craft brew game. I will try the Bombshell next time...
