Pours a dark brown red with a decent head. Smells very sweet at first. Decent flavor that is not too thick. After warming up it smells like a cigar. A decent beer that is fairly easy to drink. Goes down easy. Not sure why it's rated so low. Bottle is pretty cool.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Poured a dark reddish brown with a good fingers worth of head that settles to a thin layer with wonderful lacing from start to finish.

S: I'm getting roasted malt, caramel, little chocolate, little coffee and a touch of hops right at the very end.

T: All the smelly flavors right up front quickly followed by a crisp hops flavor at the end. Pretty well balanced... I feel it leans a little more on the bitter side.

M: Crisp yet smooth but pretty thin overall.

O: A wonderful looking, smelling brew, but it losses steam after that.... Not bad beer just a little weaker than I was expecting.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - Very dark, almost black with a foamy, but fleeting head that gave way to decent lacing.

S - Chocolate and roasted malt and grains.

T - Sweet chocolate with some coffee and roasted malts.

M - Smooth with moderate carbonation.

O - This reminded me of a good porter than anything else.

Appearance: Clear ruby brown. No lacing. Any head it has is fizzled away in moments.

Smell: Cheap roasted malt. Grainy and quite sweet. Has a lot of "red" qualities to it. Simple. Reasonable. Decent at best.

Taste: More of the same. Very thin as well. Moderate carbonation. Not a lot of flavor here. Mildly roasty grains with sweetness, and a tinge of artificial sweetness at the end. About what I'd expect.

Not a beer I bought, or would have ever wanted to buy for myself, because it tastes just as I figured it would -- quite mediocre. Pretty much the very definition of an A-OK beer.

A: Pours a dark (almost opaque) crystal clear dark reddish brown in color with light amount active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass rather rapidly and some significant garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy light beige head that quickly reduces to a medium sized thin cap in the center of the glass surround by a thick film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted and caramel malts with just a hint of bittersweet chocolate and nuts. Very faint aromas of earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of very slightly sweet toasted and caramel malts with lighter flavors of roasted malts. There are some light notes of nuts and bittersweet chocolate throughout. Finally, there is a hint of earthy hops in the finish which contributes a light amount of bitterness which lingers slightly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp upfront and smooth in the finish.

O: Easy to drink and sessionable (which it should be considering the style) but just a hint thin/watery for my enjoyment. Nice flavors but probably not one I am going to seek out again. Everytime I drink this style, I long to take another trip back to the UK and spend time in a pub.
