This is the type of beer i hate, creamy cat piss, gotta say i hate the nitro tap thingy. Way too creamy and no flavour to boot. Very sweet aswell, pretty crappy if you ask me.

look - pours pale brown smooth with a thick white head and a bit of lacing a very nice looking brew a lot like guiness and some of the other on tap bitters/stouts

smell is just really dull, almost nothing there except for some stale day old folgers coffee notes

taste is some malts with some bitterish dry hops mied with an overwhelmingly metallic taste -then some smokey, plasticy old tea finish.

mouthfeel is just ok, holds heavier than one would think from the taste

overall, not a very drinkable beer, pretty offensive, not highly, but decently so.

Chestnut-brown colour, and thanks to the widget inside the can settles to form a perfect looking white head that has excellent retention and looks very creamy.Leaves some nice lacing on the glass.

Strong-smelling and very much like a bitter on the nose with a roasted malt & caramel aroma. It is quite earthy almost and there is a whiff of dark chocolate in the beer too.

Very very watery & there is a mild bitter taste in the middle that lingers long after the beer has been swallowed. Through in a light taste of some earthy malts but other than that there is pretty much nothing else.

Light bodied & incredibly watery, perhaps the most watered down feeling beer I have ever drank. It is however smooth.

It's definitely not a beer I plan to drink again and think this will be a one-off. It tasted like dirty dishwater & is not one I can recommend.

Reviewed from notes in Glasgow, Scotland, at the Eurohostel. There seems to be a bit of confusion and misinformation about this beer and its relation to John Smith's Extra Cold, which can be remedied by reading http://www.johnsmiths.co.uk/brands/extra-smooth.html . The beer I've reviewed here is John Smith's Extra Cold, which is not "just a name for the Yanks". It's a different but related beer.

A: A brief upward bubble show. Dark amber colour with a thick white head (insert obligatory penis joke here). Appealing.

Sm: Light: caramel, maybe coffee. Hard to detect individual flavours with me broken nose.

T: Clean open to body of slight roast and a bit of coffee. Bland. Cleans up in the finish but doesn't add flavour.

Mf: Far too slick and smooth. Slides down your throat without giving a chance to taste - of course, there's not much taste to speak of besides.

Dr: Cheap in Glasgow, but still shite compared to other offerings.

bottom of the table in the english premier league of beers. its still better than many from elsewhere, but for these fellows a real disgrace. a prime example of what i call beer cordial.

poured a beauty. nice light amber color and rich creamy white head which ebbed up from the bottom of the glass impressively. nix on the smell. devoid of anything except can and fizz notes. tasted a minute trace of malt in there but had a really bad metallic finish that put me right off. so lacking in hops i was ready to send out an APB. think i disliked more than anything is after the great pour, it was weak and watery.

considering the price, get a double diamond or something. dont bother with this, its a nasty peice of work all over.

A couple of cans of this stuff were lurking at the back of one of my cupboards, so I thought I'd give it a going over.

Poured this into a pint glass, with a massive two fingered head of thick creamy froth topping an orangey brown body. Lots of tiny little bubbles clinging to the inside of the glass, but no real carbonation.

The aroma was, well, not much for me. Faint malt, grain and dough. Overall, a bit of a used soapy dishwater smell.

The taste was a very mild maltiness with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Nothing really stands out in the flavour of this.

M&D are probably this beers selling point. It was slightly watery, but very silky in the mouth. There was no carbonation, however, this just added to its blandness. Definitely drinkable, if only because there is so little taste or smell to offend you, unless you actually are offended by a lack of taste and smell. A lacklustre offering indeed, don't bother dirtying a glass to drink this one.

Deep gold color. Dense tan head. Light bread with a trace amount of honey in the aroma. Light biscuit flavor with barely any detectable hop flavor. Thin, watery mouthfeel. I suppose at 4.0% abv, a session beer is what Scottish Courage was shooting for, and if so, I guess they've met their goal. There just isn't enough substance here for my taste. IMHO, this is a sub-ordinary bitter.

This was another of the bitters I got tipped of, it was said to be really good. Bought in a 500ml can with an abv of 4.0% for $1.5.

Dark reddish color with a nice creamy head. Not much of a smell, maybe a little bready though... I find it really hard to define the taste, it's a bit like the smell, bready and with a slight roasted tone finished of in a bitter way. Should be served at 10-12°C.

Copper color. Creamy and smooth with a body that will in the same direction. A taste of rye bread in the mouth surrounded by a creamy rich lather and a rather discrete hops. A quasi-imaginary carbonation as extra smooth but not really exciting. The finish is bitter but without being excessive for a beer style bitters.

A: Poured from a can with a nitro-widget. A chalky white head is milky and settles to a 1 finger plus size. Ice tea color, clean clarity with no visible effervesce. Head retention is remarkable in terms of stay. Thick milky lacing sticks strongly and long to the vessel walls.

S: An aroma of dried corn and green corn ears come with a light but noticeable level of awareness.

T: Smooth creamy flavor, corn ears greenery, smooth silty malt lacing on the tongue. Low but noticeable bitterness.

M: smooth and creamy, light and medium body, silty malty leave.

O: Overall the nitro-widget enchances the smooth creamy body, has some sility maltiness, and low bitterness levels. Nice beginning though the flavor tends to lean and thin out deeper into the drink. Don't know if i could tackle two in one sitting. Great visual but dives downhill from there.

A: Poured from a can to a pint glass. Had a copper color and a clear consistency. There was a half inch of fairly long-lasting, creamy head. Excellent lacing.

S: Not a whole lot of smell, mostly malt, as you would expect.

T: Tasted of malt, light hops, a little grain, and little else. Very thin, watery, and featureless. Definitely one of the blander-tasting beers I've had recently.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a somewhat bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A completely forgettable, mass-produced beer. Not very drinkable.

One word encompasses this beer and that is : boring.
The nitro can produces a finely foamed darkish ale, that lacks much in the way of smell.
Taste is all malt , not too sweet and certainly smooth.
There is no bite or late palate at all.
This is a quick quaffing beeer at best and not recommended by me

Well, it has a widget. Certainly not as good as Boddingtons. Color is a nice orange to amber and it pours an interesting head. It laces and sticks to the pint glass, but the taste is rather bland. Some malts, but not much else. Mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied. Drinkability is below average. At least I only got one pint of it.
