On cask, served at what appeared to be slightly colder than room temperature at the Pot & Still, Glasgow, Scotland, April 20, 2009:

A: The beer appeared a clear dark copper-ish color with a thin, but creamy white head.

S: An average aroma of malt with a hint of hops.

T: The taste follows the nose well, but seemed to be a little more pronounced than I was expecting. There was also a hint of sweetness to the beer, but it was not overpowering or all that strong really, just subtly in the background.

M/D: The beer had a light to medium body to it, it was smooth and creamy and very easy to drink. Limited carbonation with a bit of a sour aftertaste. Still, maybe a slightly better than average beer.

Reviewed from recently found notes:

Served from the tap with a creamy, tight, sticky tanned head. Not quite mahogany, but a nice brown color.

The head is keeping the nose down a bit. Definitely malt-forward, with dark fruit, toast, and a hint of peat smoke.

The flavor definitely has a nice smoke component, with lots of raisin and boozy cherry malt flavors. A little sweet, but also good bittering with the herbal, floral hops.

Finishes a little sour, mouthfeel is pretty thin. Easy to drink but a bit too insubstantial to me.

On tap at Henry VIII Ale House in Etobicoke, Reddish, lots of lace, well malted burnst barley/smoke, complex, with bitter end. On aggressive side carbonation. Complex and drinkable. Nice white head. A good start to this place. A good fresh taste overall.

Another traditional pint of Heavy from a well known Scottish brewer. This is readily available in Scotland so I am surprised that it has not had more reviews to this point.

This beer pours a dark bronzish colour with a lovely, creamy, off white head. The nose tends to let it down a bit, an average smell of hops with a suttle hint of caramel.

This follows through to the taste, where there is a lovely mixture of hops and barley with a caramel taste. This makes it slightly sweeter than most of the Heavies on the market.

It feels a bit light on the tongue, but is still obviously a beer. It can go down too well at times this one, it is very drinkable and at 3.6% is one that can be taken all night long.

A nice nitro-tap beer, worth a try, nothing great, but there is an awful lot worse on the market.

Pint at the Commercial Hotel, Dufftown, Scotland.
Nice chesnut brown beer with a good looking creamy white head.
Quite subdued aroma, malty slighly smoky.
Smooth malty taste with some fruity undertones, slight sour notes.
Quite thin on the palate but not really watery.
A true ,easy to pound session ale
