Newcastle appears a mid color brown, but is really bright and transparent when hit with light. The head is a slight off white, but has great retention.
The smell is soft with nutty, chocolate notes. It smells nothing like ordinary beers.
It tasted immediately like the smell, then it brightens a bit on the mid palate bringing in taste of dry ripened fruit. The long finish leaves behind a roasted nut flavor and a crispness.
The mouth feel is full and the carbonation on this draft is pretty dead on, not too bubblely not to flat.
Overall, I was suprised by how much I liked Newcastle. It had been awhile since the last time I consumed one and was really impressed by the taste (maybe it was a nice change of pace from all the hopped up craft beers I have been drinking). The drinkability on it is pretty average becasue of its heaviness, but I would definitely suggesting trying it again if not for the first time.
