Had this beer on tap at Red Lobster. I've been hoping to find it on tap to see how it really tastes. I've tried it a time or two in bottles and it is very badly skunked in the bottles. Why would anyone put beer in a clear bottle??? So here is the review for the draft version.
A: Dark choclate brown color but not as dark as a porter. Minimal head but that could be the way the bar tender was taught to pour it?
S: Very mild with minimal hop aroma. I did get a hint of malt sweetness. No evidence of the SKUNK that is so common in the bottled version.
T: Nice balance for a brown ale but just a little on the sweet side. I could detect a little hop bitterness but it was not prominent.
M: A little more aggressively carbonated than most browns but again that could have been the CO2 setting at the bar? Overall the mouthfeel was pleasant but a bit too thin for what I expect in a brown ale. Are there adjuncts in this beer? Kind of had the mouth feel of a american BMC. Maybe that is why it has been such a big hit in the US?
D: Very drinkable. Given the low ABV I am sure you could have several of these. I really enjoyed this beer. It was a very pleasant surprise over the bottled version. If you want to drink this beer make sure you get the draft version.

Small head that dissipates quickly. Lacing does not stick around. Dark reddish brown body. Clear. Good carbonation.
Toasted malts and corn. Pretty mild.
Toasted malts and corn. Very light hops that are hard to detect but add a light lemony freshness. Some residual sweetness.
Pretty good. Almost medium bodied. Carbonation is spot on.
I don't really want to like this beer. The ingredients taste kind of cheap. But as I throw back a few I'm finding that it grows on me. Newcastle tastes like a watered down, sweet, adjuncty Guinness.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.
A - Poured a very clear reddish copper color. Decent enough head that retreats to lacing.
S - Very pronounced European hop note with little malt aroma.
T - Bitter hops with some hint of malt.
M - Medium body with a dry finish.
O - I honestly thought I was drinking a Heineken that someone had colored brown. This really isn't what I expect from a Brown Ale - not say it was bad - just not what I expected.
