12 oz. clear bottle is part of "Beers of the World" sampler that was given to me. I've had this beer countless times over the past several decades. The "code" 30 06 R L157 59 21 is printed on rear label. I really do enjoy understandable freshness dating. Poured my beer into my Sam Adams "pint" glass.
Appearance: copper tan body with orange hues
and small bubbled beige colored head. Lots of active carbonation just below the head, which can be easily reformed with a swirl of the glass.
Smell: any scents are subtle and quite difficult to find. Gentle scents of toffee and caramel malts, low pH water and a nuttiness once this warms up.
Taste: gentle malty sweetness with buttery toffee. Grassy hops at the finish. Ever so little alcohol can be detected once this warms up.
Mouthfeel: light bodied with generous carbonation. The hop bitterness at the finish balances out the malty sweetness. Wish there was more body to this beer.
Drinkability: fairly easy to drink with most attributes being mainly mild and difficult to detect. I've drank Newkie Brown for decades now, but few and far between lately. Somehow, I'm sure this is a much better beer in England, at the source. This is a brown ale "light".

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.
A - Poured a very clear reddish copper color. Decent enough head that retreats to lacing.
S - Very pronounced European hop note with little malt aroma.
T - Bitter hops with some hint of malt.
M - Medium body with a dry finish.
O - I honestly thought I was drinking a Heineken that someone had colored brown. This really isn't what I expect from a Brown Ale - not say it was bad - just not what I expected.

500 ml can purchased from LCBO for $2.90 CDN. Served rather cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - Mostly clear brown beer with lots of bubbles. 2 fingers of head with only so-so retention. Red hues in the beer and some trace lacing.
Smell - Mild malts and some light grassy aromas. Not much else, and this beer was somewhat metallic smelling.
Taste - Light cherry flavors, Nice blends of caramel and toffee malts. Also some bready characteristics on the palate.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and rich and slight syrupy in the way the beer clings to the inside of your mouth.
Overall - A good beer, and very accessible too, but by no means a world beater or even something I'd regularly pick up.
