Appearance: Solid brown with heavy tan foam and a hint of red; like vampire blood, excellent for the season.

Smell: Berries (mainly raspberries) and caramel. Very sweet overall. The fruity smells definitely comes as a surprise.

Taste/Mouthfeel: More sweet fruit (berries and caramel again). Surprisingly enjoyable. Mouthfeel has a nice medium-bodied yeasty quality.

Overall Drinkability: I somewhat expected a tacky Halloween beer, especially given the fact that I don't particularly like regular Newcastle. This stuff hits the spot though. The candy flavors, color, and name are a perfect compliment to Halloween.

Smooth fruity notes

Pours a brownish red with a beige head. The front taste of this beer is a well balance of malts. The ending taste highlights the bitterness described on its label. Bitterness is not too overwhelming and appears balanced enough to enjoy several bottles of this brew. The mouthfeel is of a dry feel with a hoppy aftertaste.

Poured into a weizen glass from the bottle

The packaging says it's blood red, and holding it up to daylight I agree (holding it up to flourescent light, maybe not). The color is deep and beautiful.

Mouthfeel was great, except it was a little more carbonated than I prefer.

The head was about three-quarter inch, nice and dense...

The taste is great. Starts out with a mellow english brown and moves into a nice bitter with slightly chocolate overtones.

All in all, one of the best beers I've had this summer.

Pours reddish copper with a nice head. A full sheet of lacing sticks.

The smell is of caramel, brown sugar - smells like it will be a sweet one - then an earthy tone comes in.

The taste is of caramel/toffee with some brown sugar. Sweet, but with an earthy hop bitterness and touch of toast to balance it.

It is creamy and smooth.

A nice example of a traditional red ale. Sweet, but with an earthy undertone, especially in the finish. I would love to try this one on cask!
