I never liked skunkcastle brown and the other seasonal offerings are weak. Let's give this a go! Poured a clear amber-brown color with a small off white head. This smells like stale adjunct. No pine or citrus or fruit just dirt. The taste is overly harsh and bitter. In fact there is a weird flavor here that I remember from the founders and the summer ale. Kind of a weird dirty earth flavor. Now its starting to taste like perfume. I assume that's the hops. Feel is prickly from the carbonation. Not drinkable.

Clear copper color, extremely malty aroma, getting no hops whatsoever. Just raisin like malt.

Doesn't taste like an ipa either. More like an esb or English bitter. Not nearly enough hop character to be an ipa. Sweet dark fruit and caramel. Herbal and soapy hop character. Balanced clean and simple. But the flavors are faint. The beer is refreshing at least leaving an herbal minty taste in the mouth.

On tap at Buffalo Wild Wings. Also on special, so why not give it a shot?

A: Clear rich amber body under a finger of fine off-white head. Pretty strong retention and lace. Nice.

S: Less nice. Stone fruit and toasty malt. No hops presence to speak of. A trifle buttery. I wouldn't hate this as an ESB, but for an IPA it's weak sauce.

T: Nutty, fruity, toasty, malty. Some faint herbal bitterness on the finish. Not unpleasant, nut never an IPA.

M: Fairly light bodied and frothy. All right.

O: Very English tasting and quite clean, but disappointingly devoid of hoppiness. Way too malty, even for an EIPA.

Cheers!

Hmmmm a new Newcastle, like the brown picked up a six of this to give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a nice malt smell with a dry hoppiness. Pouring into a SAMs perfect pint I get a nice bronze color with a foamy multi-bubble head. On the taste this brew has caramel up front followed by a zesty but not very bitter hoppiness, almost that vinegar twinge of a Typical UK brew. Mouthfeel is equally as zesty but not overly so. A good sessioner. Nothing spectacular, but a decent brew at a reasonable ABV. Not really an IPA but zesty.

On-tap 11/16/2012 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark amber color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, honey, some hops and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out bready with mild flavors of nuts and a hearty malt character. Then some mild sweetness comes in from flavors of caramel and a little citrus. The hops presence is mild for the style but brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a solid beer worth drinking for a while.

Newcastle Winter IPA has a fairly thick, foamy, off-white head, a clear, slightly bubbly, copper appearance and minimal lacing on the glass. The aroma is subtle, but one can pick up tea, malt, and possibly a touch of hop sting. Taste is of tea, nuts, brown bread, bread crumb, sweetness, tannin, and an underlying hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Newcastle Winter IPA finishes semi-dry, mild, and highly drinkable. Overall, this is a sublime, intricate, and delicate offering. I think this is a really nice beer!

A: poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass, pours a deep amber with a 1/2" white head that dissipates leaving some lacing, very clear
S: it's amazingly devoid of any scent, maybe slight citrus
T: there is little hop presence in this beer, it is an English mild and should not be called an IPA, slight citrus hop presence, mild caramel malt flavors, dissapointing
M: medium with little carbonation
O: if this were classified as a mild ale I would rate it higher, unfortunately Newcastle called it an IPA which it isn't, not a bad beer but not as labeled
