Newcastle's branching out has resulted in some good brews, and this one is no exception. It pours a clean amber, with a 2-finger head of off-white carbonation and only a thin wisp of lace. Fine so far.

Nose is mainly malty, believe it or not. I get caramel. But, this is, however, a classic English-style IPA, rather than an American-style hop-bomb IPA. So no points detracted.

Taste is caramel and toffee, with the hops coming it more near the middle and finish of the tasting. Solid and quite enjoyable, if not memorable.

A - Dark for an IPA. Light brown. Limited lacing and head.

S - Sweet toffee, with biscuity notes.

T - Kind of at a loss at what makes this an IPA. Hoppiness is very limited for even a English IPA. Has the malt of a winter warmer. Toasted grain. Little bit of sweetness

M - Medium bodied.

O - Just an okay brew. I think they should do a reset and figure out how to mix a winter warmer with an IPA because this misses the mark.

Small white to slightly off white head settles into a thinner lacing above a clear caramel copper colored beer.

Dark roasted caramel malts are quite light with some dark fruits maybe prunes or apricots aroma from the hops.

The darker fruits and also the dark roasted malts blend to give this beer a darker dryer taste.

A slightly wet aftertaste turns dry with some slight darker aspects of the taste lingering on with this medium bodied beer.

This beer kinda of reminds me of a winter warmer crossed with a Oktoberfest or amber giving this beer a decent taste but it just seems to miss the mark a bit.

Finger and half of head, clear copper body.
A wood, barnyard and lemon zest smell.
Fairly malty, medium bitterness, mild apple and pear taste. With a long dry bitter ending.
Smooth texture, low carbonation, medium body.
It's nothing crazy, but it has a good solid profile. An IPA with more malt to it, which is nice and different.

Well the good news is that Total Wine often closes out their Newcastle seasonal offerings to make room for the new seasonals, $6.99/12 pack.

Pours like a thin brown ale and cola. Not at all impressive for an ipa appearance. Carbonation decent, head formation over 1", but retention and lacing were poor. Aroma was poor as well, even if you're an English ipa, I expect some indication of hops. All I got was a bitter nuttiness.

A little bit of sweetness, fractional hoppiness actually reveals itself. A somewhat accurate version of a mild English ipa I guess. I get a unique spice presence to it, not unlike rye. Toffee is a main malt descriptor, miniscule leathery aspect. Bitterness is down in the mouthfeel. A decent option to have in the fridge/cooler when you don't want BMC type guests drinking your good stuff, but you want to help bridge the gap for them.

A - Drank straight from the bottle

S - Slight smell of hops, not nearly as powerful as one would expect.

T - Hard to believe this was an IPA. Hops were present but not nearly as powerful as a traditional IPA.

M - Very easy to drink. This stuff goes down very gentle and leaves you wanting another sip.

O - A very drinkable beer. Not what I was expecting in an IPA but my bias comes from drinking American IPAs. Would drink again.

Poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear brownish amber with about a half inch of white head that had no retention or lacing.

The aroma featured good malts and nice, gentle hops. The hops were much brighter on the tongue, giving a good contrast to the solid malts. The malts, while solid, weren't sweet and had a very nice flavor.

The body was a nice, even medium. Drinkability was very good, I could have easily had a few of these. Overall, a nice brew. Certainly worth trying if you see it.

Pours to a copper color with a reasonable foam tan head. As an IPA it is clearly a very drinkable IPA. Bitterness is low and complements the malt character of this beer. Surprisingly very mild to the pallate and finishes pretty smooth.
Not sure if it's a year round beer. Good overall.

Disclaimer: I dig English beer, and have a certain and definite bias in their direction.

Ap: Darker than I expected. It is lovely, though, with the requisite thin foam lacing at the top. Not too much -- takes away from the beer below.

Sm: toasty, dark florals, and a bit of soy sauce.

T: A firm nutty bite with mellow but distinctive English hops, treacle, raisins, and plum pudding. As others have said, not quite as sweet as Nukey Brown, which is a good thing.

M: Nice, but nothing distinctive.

O: speaking of the aforementioned plum pudding, I bet it would be a perfect match with that. As a gift, I certainly wasn't going to turn these freebies down, and they're pretty tasty to boot.
