32oz “grunt” filled at the brewery in Spokane for $4 (“IPA Blowout” price-otherwise it would have been $8). I’m not certain, but there’s a distinct possibility that this is the exact same recipe as the now-defunct Coeur d’Alene Brewing’s IPA.
Poured a slightly hazy amber-orange color, with a sudsy, beige head. There was a decent lace pattern left on the sides of my Jones Radiator mug.
Good piney and citrusy hop aroma. As it warms up, a bready malt scent makes itself notable, but the hops remain the dominant players.
Hop flavor up front, as one would expect. Malts are there for backbone but they don’t do a whole lot. It’s hopped with Cascade, Nugget and Bravo hops and the brewery says it’s dry-hopped with more Bravo hops after fermentation, but it really strikes me as verging on being an assertively hopped pale ale rather than an IPA, if that makes any sense.
The body is a little thin, but not to a disturbing degree. The mouthfeel is mildly oily and slick.
At 65 IBUs and with a 5.3 abv percentage, this is a decent session IPA that borders on being a hoppy pale ale. It’s nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done. 32 ounces of this was a pretty good investment for $4.
