Big pint tonight at the brewpub.... Pours a pretty, deep amber... short lived white head.
Nose shows expected maltiness... dark toast and a bit of caramel... a little bit of something that reminds me of cherry esters that seems out of place.
Flavor is malty but not as rich as many better versions... again a heavy fruity ester is a too overwhelming and accentuates the maltiness and makes it seem overly sweet.
Medium body... okay... I will probably wait until the next batch to give this another try.

really a pretty fine specimen here, a good example of the style overall, and a beer my mother ordered multiples of, which is really saying something. its copper colored, clear and bright, under a short tan head with fine retention, some bubbles coming up giving it some life. its dry for being as malt forward as it is, and its not heavy in a style that tends to run a little dense, no sign of its alcohol strength either, making this one of the more drinkable takes on a scottish ive had in some time. good malt depth to it, a kilned and warming vibe, not quite as long cooked and concentrated as a lot of these, and with a neat fruity and spice complexion making it quite autumnal to me, red apple, light clove, and a frothy earthy ale yeast strain thats well used and quite authentic to me. the bubble and the dryness are nice in the style, the light maple character a cool wrinkle, and overall this was a real enjoyable malt driven brew, well refined, and sneaky strong. solid with much of the food in here too, man they are killing it in both the kitchen and the brew house right now!

Very sweet, not enough of the earthy, peaty flavors. Dark amber body with small off white frothy head. Faint malty aroma, some fruitiness. Taste is more sweet malt and some brown sugar. Dull finish.
