On tap at the Norwich Inn,
Pours a dark golden almost copper color with a fluffy off white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a fair bit of lace. Smells of earthy and floral hops with bready and toffee malts. Taste is malty sweet with hints of earthy hops to cut through the sugar. Butter and toffee are dominant in the flavor only slightly countered by the earth hops. Medium body and level of carbonation, slick sweet mouthfeel. Decent English Pale Ale, nothing extraordinary but certainly drinkable.

Fuggle & Barleycorn pours a light orange-amber color with a thin white head on top. Light lacing is left behind.

Malty and a little grainy on the nose. Subtle grapefruit and apple notes come through as well. Sweet, slightly fruity. Good aroma for an English pale ale.

Tipping back the glass reveals a mouthful of sweet, biscuit malt notes mingled with traces of grapefruit and light hops. Hops add a touch of bitterness, keeping the flavor well balanced, and at the same time introduce some subtle floral notes. This flavor is simple, yet tasty and well crafted.

Mouthfeel is smooth, almost chewy, touch of bitterness and perfect carbonation. Well done for the style.

Drinkability is great. This beer is extremely quaffable. Smooth, flavorful and only 5% ABV. I could see myself drinking this all night.

Overall, I was quite impressed with this beer. English pale ales usually don't stand out much to me, but this is by far the best I have had for the style. Another great example of Vermont microbrew. Highly recommended.

Off the tap at the hotel/brewery in Norwich this English Pale Ale was a 24 karat gold color. The head was cream-like, the retention of the thin cap was good and the lacing was good too, albeit spotty. The aroma was light and dry with a clean, slightly bitter nip from the Fuggles hops. The flavors were at first of semi-sweet pale malt that then went into light citrus notes, then herbal hops and finally a crisp, bitter finish. It was sessionable and refreshing. The mouthfeel was smooth but a little watery, the body medium/light and the carbonation soft.

On tap at the brewery/hotel, enjoyed with dinner, pours cloudy, orangy amber with low carbonation levels, leading to a minimal tan head and no lacing. Sporting a soft hoppy nose, this is a smooth drinking ale, with notes of caramel and sweet malts and drying hops in the finish. This is a pleasant, low key and thoroughly Brit style sessioner, highly drinkable and nicely crafted.

This was one of the three taps available at the Alehouse, and unlike the Whistling Pig, this one didn't disappoint.

It poured with a decent, thin white head while the beer itself is deep golden in color. There is a fresh, floral hop nose with a nice refreshing pale malt essence. Splendid aroma. The medium-to-light body displays a creamy malt base with just enough hop traction to balance it out. The hop bouquet sits nicely while a good contrast existswith the creamy, yet pale, malt. It finishes refreshingly, even with the dry edge. The bouquet punctuates this overall solid beer.

Poured a hazy burnt mandarin orange in color. Thick, creamy head. Just looked edible. Aroma was very earthy, as if I had been out hiking, and just slightly hoppy. Flavor was malty, and the hops were balanced very nicely and added a nice bouquet of flavor. Slightly sweet and toasted. Medium body but the carbonation was perfect, brought out the flavors nicely. I had to drag myself away from the bar because I realized I had drunk my fair share for the night.

On tap at the pub in a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber golden hue, nice clarity and the lace stood strong.

Smell: Woody and herbal hop aroma with a clean doughy biscuity malt smell.

Taste: Clean malty palate with a subdued fruitiness, light toasted malt with a solid sweetness. The hops do very well to balance with a modest bitterness though the flavor takes it for a ride right to the slightly drying finish.

Mouth Feel: Moderate body with a lightly crisp carbonation.

Drinkability: I ended up drinking this one until the end of the night ... so flavorful and drinkable, I'll would never get tired of it.

Great bright amber hue-yellow, red and brown in equal parts glowing in the direct sunshine of the Norwich Inn's beer garden. Head retention not very strong, though.

Aroma distinctly lacking. Disappointing, considering the complexity of flavors in the glass.

On the floral hoppy side, balanced with distinct and welcome notes of dried apricot. Crisp small-bubble mouthfeel adds to the bracing nature of the hop presence, which intensifies over the course of the glass. Jasper Murdock's does make an IPA, but hop fans will find this pale to their liking.

A light-to-medium amber pour, with a thin head and good clarity. Looks like your basic bitter. Strong hops smell, which carries through to the taste, which is strongly hopped, but without much dryness. Nicely balanced by the malt. Nice hops finish as well. However, it's a little thin on the mouthfeel, a bit watery. A pleasant beer, nonetheless.
