Got a 22oz bottle from the Inn on a recent Vermont visit.
Pours a dark chocolate black with thin bubbly tan head that reduces quickly to a bubbly ring with minimal lace. Had a nice spiral film on the second pour into my tulip glass.
Smells of light toffee with a dark malt backbone, hints of vanilla, oak and coffee. Some raisony dark fruit and prune as well. A tad too much brown sugary sweetness.
A surprisingly light body, not much carbonation. Light flavors of toffee, vanilla, and prunes slightly overwhelmed by a dry oaky malt. More like a coffee stout than a belgian strong ale. As this beer warms up the flavors come more into balance but I still do not get any significant contribution from the yeast. A dry finish competes with with the underlying sweetness.
There is some confusion about this beer as it's billed as a Belgian Stout at the Brewery but listed as a Belgian Strong Ale. As a Belgian Stout it seems to forge new territory and is refreshing in that there is not an overpowering amount of alcohol presence just a light cohesive blending of Belgian like flavors delivered in a stout like manner.

Had on tap from the Norwich Pub. A really dark, almost black stout-like beer. You don't get a whole lot of the "belgian" aspect in the stout--there is so much flavor going on that the yeast is out of mind. Notes of coffee, subtle chocolate, a sweet finish--but dry as well. Really a nice combination.
This stout was a collaboration between the three brewmasters that Jasper Murdock's has had in the last 20 years. It is a 20th anniversary brew.
