Proud, bold beauty. Full of flavor, this NW IPA is proof that you can go big without the bitter bite. No hop shock here. Well-balanced and lovingly dry-hopped with Merdian and Crystal hops for a rich, citrusy finish. Beer with a backbone - born from a place where a little heavy weather never hurt anyone.

Bottle from Safeway in Bend. Dark amber pour with small, soapy head. Fruity, floral aroma, candy, soap. Taste switches gears and brings the malts to the front, slightly dry and earthy. Dryness and bitterness lingers on the palate.

Pours a cloudy light brown with a hint of orange when held to light, nice retention and great lacing.
Deep toasted/burnt malt aroma, citrus rind, musty hoppy earthiness.
Same toasty burnt malt flavor hits first, follow by a rind like bite and some resin like earthiness.
Medium body, soft creamy carb, very grass like high bitterness on the finish, semi dry finish.
A very tasty maltier traditional IPA, very good.

Just too much. Too sweetly malty, too bitterly astringent, too thick a mouthfeel, too strong for a single IPA. It did, however, look wonderful, with a nice, consistent head, which in some odd way reflects what I feel is a lack of balance in this beer. Disappointed, as I've liked a number of their other beers.

12oz can
Pours three massive fingers of creamy white head into my can-style glass. Retention is wonderful, not even losing a sliver of head after a few minutes. Initial lacing looks good. Body is a dark burnt orange, medium visibility, with a load of bubbles coming up. Looks very nice so far.
Nose is extremely malty, fresh baked bread, this smells like wort being mashed. Underneath that are some piney northwest hops, a touch of citrus. This is an old school IPA through and through, and I think I like it. This smells pretty damn good, hopefully it won’t be cloying.
I may be drinking this a tad warm, but it’s still pretty good. You definitely get that nice malt backbone, not cloying, with some underlying northwest hops - a touch of citrus, faint pine. I think my enjoyment is more predicated on that fact that I haven’t had a properly malted IPA in a while, something that used to be all too common. I certainly prefer a crisp malt bill, but this is bringing me back to 2010 and I don’t mind it. Pretty nice.
Carbonation is on the lower side, might have a little to do with the temp, but no way that brought it this low. Body is pretty smooth, sitting at about medium. Definitely a little sweet, but again, I wouldn’t call it cloying. Bitterness is decent, about medium as well. A pretty decent mouthfeel, seems pretty balanced. Carbonation is very low, but it’s not a huge issue.
Drinkability is very nice, this is smooth and tasty.
Appearance turned out quite nice. Head was resilient and lacing was pretty thick.
Overall this is a great blast from the past, and if memory serves, one that’s done right.

500mL bottle served in pint glass. Red brass amber, great clarity, bubbles rising towards a moderate white foam. Aroma is a bit...malty? A bit of pine. Flavor has a pleasing bitter crispness and a bite of pine tar which just skirts the edge of waxiness. 70 IBUs seek out to pucker the corners of my mouth. The hop flavors may be a bit one dimensional, but there's a flavor of biscuit malt in the backbone which firmly grounds this beer as a drinkable, if outsized, single IPA.

Flawless. Rich amber/sap, heavy orange rind, massively dry bitterness.

my first beer from these guys, and what appears here to be their most popular. its an outstanding pint of ipa, fresh from the tap, relatively familiar in its flavor profile and proportions, but just extremely well executed and appealing, the kind of ipa i want to drink all night, no frills. a little caramel color to this, but not too much malt in the nose or taste, and never sweet, just with some structure to support the hops and to balance the bitterness that comes on late. the hops have notes of mandarin oranges from the can, pine boughs, and some more bitter citrus, a little sticky weedy thing too, some honey with the grain extending that, and some oiliness from the hops here as well. i get some bitter orange in the taste, almost candied with some of the grain character around it. i like all the body, this is fuller than most, and it has a nice piney hop linger as well. both my wife and i thought this was killer on its own, but even better with some creative asian cuisine, handles spice and umami well, and is big enough to hold up to robust flavors like these. freshness is everything with hoppy beer, and this seemed to be at its absolute peak, just brand new and still with the full potential of all the hops on display. almost a fresh hop vibe to it really. this was excellent, and has me keen to get my lips on some more beers from these guys. not the most complex ipa in the world, but a righteously delicious one! underrated here on BA i reckon.

12oz can served in a tulip. Dated 8/12/19. Bought it in Tillamook.
Pours clear amber with a nice biggish head and lots of carbonation. Smell is pine, grapefruit, lemon zest.
Taste is bitter with interesting citrus notes, then a bitter finish that makes me think of grapefruit rind.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Overall, it's a good clean NW IPA.

Fruity, a bit too much malt for an ipa.
