Our Cream Ale is a smooth, soft-bodied ale exhibiting a light golden color, gentle hoppiness and a fruity aroma with a bright, clean finish. Brewed to be thirst quenching with a more moderate alcohol content than our other brews, it is an excellent quaff to enjoy out on the lake on a hot afternoon. Less filling and lower in alcohol, it is intended to appeal to experienced ale drinkers looking for a session-able beverage, as well as serve as a ‘gateway’ craft ale for drinkers who are curious about craft beers, but may find the taste and alcohol levels of most craft brewed ales over-powering. This brew is a real crowd pleaser for all tastes and appeals to both the male and female segments of the market. A great choice for a chardonnay lover.

12 oz. bottle poured into pint glass

L: light yellow, very light hint of orange (no amber); white skin of a head ... very weak foam, doesn't last, little to no stick and no lace; almost as clear as a good lager

S: sweet ... creamed corn; sour grain; butter, butterscotch

T: sweet malt ... in fact, has the same notes as the nose without ever tasting sour, just grainy; perfectly hides the 5.4% ABV, which isn't much but in such a light-bodied beer, it could have a more forceful presence ... it doesn't; this brew tastes light and sweet all the way through

F: fantastic ... the pour leads you to believe the brew is under-carbonated, but it's got plenty of carbonation to keep it from feeling flat, and the weight is just a bit heftier than it looks

O: it's a bit too creamed corn-like for my tastes, but that fits the style (1) and this brew is tasty (2). a very drinkable, accessible beer, and probably Solid Rock's best shot at getting into a BMC-drinker's fridge.

I haven't had a cream ale in awhile, but boy am I in the mood for (a good) one.

BOTTLE: 12 fl oz. Brown glass. Unbranded pry-off pressure cap. Simple label design. 5.4% ABV. 16 IBU. 5.5 SRM.

Served cold into a pilsner glass at low altitude in Austin, TX. Expectations are above average.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Half finger wide head of beige colour. Lacks the thickness, frothiness, creaminess, and fullness I'd expect to see in a good cream ale head. Retention is average - maybe 2 minutes. Leaves no lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes.

BODY: Predictably, it's a clear yellow/pale-copper of average vibrance. Translucent and transparent. Has a lager-like cleanliness, lacking any visible yeast particulate or hop sediment in spite of this beer being unfiltered and unpasteurized according to the label.

Appears aptly carbonated. Overall, it's a generally appealing cream ale appearance, but nothing about it stands out as unique or special.

AROMA: Cream, corn adjunct, clean barley, generic pale malts, slightly sour grains, flaked malts, and a faint kiss of diacetyl. Largely a simple - and some might say boring - aroma, but one which isn't off the mark for the style.

No yeast character, overt hops, or alcohol is detectable.

A pleasant aroma of average aromatic intensity.

TASTE: Pretty generic. Cream, flaked malts, corn adjunct, loose graininess, clean barley. It's light on the esters considering ale yeast was used. Hop profile is barely noticeable at all - you'd never be able to tell they used cascade.

No yeast character, alcohol, off-notes, or spices come through.

It's quite simply built, and isn't unbalanced as a result. But it's certainly not dialed in to the degree it should be, and while it has a loose cohesion it's far from gestalt. I do like it, but it leaves a lot to be desired and has an unfortunate shallow depth of flavour.

Flavour duration and intensity are average. It's not subtle or complex by any means, but it's within style conventions and is enjoyable.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, slightly overcarbonated, mildly refreshing, light to medium-bodied, mildly thick, and not too weighty on the palate. Overall presence on the palate is decent, but this texture fails to elevate the beer and fails to accentuate any specific constituent notes from the flavour profile.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.

OVERALL: An above average cream ale, sure, but nothing to write home about. I like it and would certainly order it again if I was in the mood for the style. I'm always happy to see more cream ales on the market, but this won't impress the discerning drinkable. Very drinkable, but also very forgettable. Might make a good beer for transitioning those accustomed to macrobrewed lagers into microbrewed beer.

Pretty average beer. Fairly plain, not much going on taste-wise. May as well have been a Lone Star or Budweiser, in my opinion.

Well it is certainly better than the other cream ale selection in Austin (infamous brewing)
