S - pint glass poured from bar tap at JT Schmid's in Anaheim

A - almost black with a thick, off-white head

S - roast is the primary aroma here; a nuttiness along with coffee.

T - There’s a sweetness of licorice and burnt sugar as well as a mild molasses and dark chocolate character. Coffee notes up front with plenty of roast and dark chocolate. Left wit burnt sugar notes a the finish.

M - medium in weight, a hearty presence with smooth carbonation.

O - This is an EXCELLENT stout; one of my favorites! Highly recommended!

On tap at the JT Schmid's Brew Pub located in Anaheim, CA.

Poured a deep black color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, roasty and some coffee. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, roast, and coffee. I would say chocolate really stood out on this one and this was my favorite of all the beers I had there tonight. Light lacing left on the glass.

I had this on tap at the JT Schmid's restaurant, paired with a cheese and tomato pizza and sweet potato fries. From the very first sip I was blown away. This is a very good stout! I'm already looking forward to going back for another. The mouthfeel is heavy, rich, creamy. The taste is good up front, but truly exceptional in the finish. The lingering chocolate and roasted malt flavors are wonderful.

Consumed at brewery, 02/29/08.

Very dark brown. Nitro pour with typical accompanying tan head.

Aroma is roasted black coffee.

Flavor is dark roasted coffee. Fleeting caramel sweetness. A little more bitter than expected on the finish, but no hop flavor detected.

Mouthfeel components include a touch of oilyness alcohol burn on tongue (?!).

The best of the five on tap the day I visited.

On-tap at JT Schmid's in Tustin

A: The pour is almost black with a thick, off-white head.

S: Roast is the primary aroma here. A decent amount of char along with some coffee. There's a nice sweetness of licorice and burnt sugar as well as a mild molasses and dark chocolate character.

T: Nice coffee notes up front with plenty of roast and dark chocolate. Like with the aroma, there's some good licorice and burnt sugar notes. However, this is a bit too sweet overall.

M: I'd call the body medium with a smooth carbonation.

O: Up there with the IPA in terms of the house beers. A nice stout, though it could do with a touch less sweetness.

My pregame brew before attending the Ducks 10th straight win in a row across the street at Honda center.

Not much head though a ring of tan thin foam encircled the plastic cup in which this was served. A bit more on the nose than other extra stouts I've had. Taste packs all kinds of interesting notes - maltiness, roasted barley, chocolate, vanilla, wood and even some smoke. A nice crisp beer with a mouthfeel that really stands up well for this style.

A nice rendition of Extra Stout!

On tap at JT Schmidt's.

A: Black with an enormous head and impressive lacing.

S: Lightly smoky with pronounced roasts grains and light licorice notes. Dark chocolate is pretty strong. There's a restrained nuttiness.

T: Roasted malt accompanies coffee and a little licorice. Chocolate is pervasive. Earth blends with a low bitterness. The finish is slightly smoky.

M: Full body with medium carbonation.

Overall: Best beer I've had here, but I wouldn't recommend coming here for the beer, or the food, or the service. Just skip this place.

A decent if unimpressive stout from this brewpub. The look is a near opaque dark brown with more tan head than I expected. The nose is coffee and roasted malt with the same following in the taste. The feel is a tad thin and there is not much bite in the finish. Reasonable drinkability for this passable stout.

Appearance: Black with a short tan head that lasted until I was completely done. Leaves an absurd amount of lacing on the glass - it was caked on.

Smell: Malt and chocolate.

Taste: Up front it is malty with some cocoa and coffee, with very mild sweetness. This fades into mild bitterness, wood, and alcohol (faint considering it's 8.0%ABV).

Mouthfeel: Moderately carbonated and really thick.

Overall: Very solid Imperial Stout. The flavor is pretty standard, but there is plenty of it and the mouthfeel is super-thick. Easily my favorite house beer at JT Schmid's.

Had this tonight at "The District" in Tustin/Irvine. Was pleasantly surprised.

Pours a dark, dark brown with a black interior. Had a decent head on it. Smells of coffee, some chocolate, and a hint of hops (I was surprised). No dark fruits or overwhelming complexity, but a very solid tasting stout. Enjoyed it quite a bit, and would have had another except for the inclination to try a different brew. Had a very charcoal/roasty aftertaste and flavoring that was interesting, but a bit offputting after a while.

Was perhaps on the thin side, mouthfeel wise.

Appearance: Black as ink with virtually no collar of foam (blame goes to the bartender and the temperature).

Aroma: The lack of a foam collar certainly doesn't help release the potentially wonderful aroma of this beer. With great effort (much to the bemusement of a couple seated next to me) the distinct nutty smell with hints of chocolate were coaxed from the rim of the glass

Taste: A carbonation tongue-bath (in a good way) quickly followed by malty chocolate. The finish shows hop balance and makes me wish the brew was served on nitrogen so that the full effect of the ingrediants could be evaluated

Mouthfeel: Very nice mouth coating effect conveyed by the malts...nice and well balanced in the West Coast style

Drinkability: Although served much too cold, the drinkability is as good as it can be without G-gas treatment

This was probably my favorite beer from this Brewpub, but it's still nothing mind-blowing. Very dark brown with a medium beige head. Fair lacing going on here. Strong malt and come coffee in the aroma which I found interesting for some reason. Conversely, coffee is more dominant in the flavor than the malt, and there is a hops presence in the finish. I would get this when I visit Anaheim again.
