This is a very unique IPA. If you are the kind of person that does not like the excessive hoppy flavor in your beer, this is definitely for you. I think it is also a great transitional beer for someone who is just getting into IPA's and is not ready for the bold hoppiness in other beers.

It has a slightly malty taste and a minorly tart flavor. What I like about it is that it is light bodied and while the hops hit you slightly quickly, it dissipates just as fast. This is definitely more of a refreshing IPA, and is very hard to compare to other IPA's like Bear Republic and Oskar Blues type IPA's. It really is in a league of its own.

An IPA is a "Love it or Leave it" type beer. The folks at OBH are smart as they made their first IPA brew something that everybody could get into. Smart marketing for an upstart brewery.

An easy drinking IPA. Not as hoppy as your typical IPA but still
has a nice flavor to it. Has a nice head and seems nicely crafted.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Thick deep slightly off tan colored head, huge and large but not overly so at about four fingers tall. Big island puck and ring lacing on the glass, sitting on a body of bronze orange amber, and slightly rusty looking. Body has some slow carbonation, but also looks a little cloudy.

Mellow hop forward aroma slightly floral a bit. Not much else going on the malt angle, and a subdued subtle quality. Some orange herbal tea like aromas come out a bit too. Not too bad.

Palate comes quite nicely and with some malt depth more than hinted on the nose. A very subtle hop quality with minimal bitterness. Much of the orange seems to come out a bit now with some floral aromatics. Good malt mellow caramel sweetness. Really nice texture to this as well, almost fluffy on the tongue with some light bread.

This is not a hop heads beer, but it certainly is a very pleasant and soft IPA. Real easy drinking mostly because of that.

Not bad!! A fairly mild English IPA that has nice balance and adequate flavor. Pours a clear copper color with a smallish white head. Average head retention and some thin bands of lacing on the glass. Aroma is a bit weak, Some bready malt and a little bitterness,
Taste is better, the malts are dominant, bready with some slightly sweet and toffee like aspects. There is balancing bitterness. Mouthfeel is a bit light but also crisp and refreshing. A bit high in the abv department to be a session ale, but still not bad at all!!!!

I'm only writing this because BA told me I had to write a review. Not sure why though? This beer doesn't stand out in any particular way, and the nose is fairly week. I thought the beer was VERY drinkeable and had a great mouthfeel. Overall, this beer was well above the average BA rating IMO, and I would love to have more. How's that for a review BA?

Just a standard good old ipa to make you feel good

12oz bottle into a pint

A: Really light orange that is almost yellow held up to a light. The one finger of foam from a heavy handed pour disappeared quickly. A thin cap and a little bit of lacing is left behind.

S: Almost a dark cherry on first sniff, but only straight malt on second pass. Picking up a little bit of iron under the malt.

T: Malty, straight-forward with a quick, drying finish. Not much going on. A little bit of alcohol coming through now. The finish is definitely drying my mouth out, and I'm picking up some metallic bitterness in the aftertaste.

M: Feels thin, but very carbonated.

O: I'm no hop head, but I like a good IPA. This is not a good IPA. Actually, it's not an IPA. The carbonation makes it go down, but I don't know if I'll try this brewery again.

An IPA that is very light on the hops- I know they wanted a light hop flavor but I prefer a hoppier IPA

12 oz bottle, a bit more on the malty side

Tasteless and embarrassing. The type of IPA one might expect if our major mass producer of beer attempted an IPA. The brewer says this is has a "taste hop-heads crave, without overwhelming your pallet". Instead fatally it underwhelms.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a copper color. The head is nice - three fingers high, barely off-white in shade. Retention is alright, but it manages to leave behind a nice web of lacing on the glass.

S: I'm picking up a strange herbal quality to it - it almost makes me think "marinara sauce", but not quite. It's fairly malty, too, with notes of caramel and toffee. Otherwise, it's rather boring. There really isn't much here.

T: Much like the nose indicated, it's very herbaceous. Again, I almost think "marinara sauce" when sipping this. Some undefined caramel sweetness finishes it off. Coming back to my first thought, there's a significant acidic quality to this throughout the flavor profile. Really, tomato-esque tartness is the dominant flavor, and that just shouldn't be the case. This one needs quite a bit of work.

M: It wants to be crisp, light, and semi-dry; honestly it is. Problem is, the flavor profile is too disagreeable for me to want to drink this quickly. Carbonation is strong without being sharp, at least. If I don't focus on the tomato flavors, I can will this down easily.

O: I love trying out local beers. But as much as I love giving the little guy a chance, they still have to make good beer - and this isn't a good beer. I hope these guys get the bugs out eventually, because I'm 0 for 2 with this brewery in particular. Less generic acidicness, more fruity hop flavors/aromas, and more defined malt would make this a much better beer.

This beer misses the mark for an IPA, hops are almost non existent and the malt profile is very light - not a well balanced IPA. It appears the folks at OBH are aiming for craft beer new comers by brewing beers that are much lighter than the style they are advertised to be. While this may be a good marketing strategy, it is not a good beer. I hope they decide to brew beers that are true to style.
