On tap at Pour House. Deep amber color, minimal head and not much lacing. Aroma is full of fresh chili peppers; nice and spicy with a little malt and not much hops. Taste matches the aroma, you get a lot of heat up front but it doesn't overpower you. I generally love spicy things, so perhaps for someone who doesn't the mouthfeel could be a bit much. Not too hoppy, the heat and malt are at the forefront. Solid spicy imperial.

32 oz growler into a teku.
Appearance: Pours a dark copper color with good clarity. The head is three fingers high and off-white in shade. I love how consistent and soft the texture is, and it retains nicely to boot. On the other hand, there isn't much lacing left on the glass. (3.75)
Smell: This is a pepper beer first, a DIPA second. I definitely notice a faint sweetness from thai peppers, which combines with the sweet, caramely malt backbone. Hops are definitely on the backburner here - in a way, the chilies replace their role in balancing the sweetness. Certainly an interesting, enjoyable nose for a pepper lover like me. (3.75)
Taste: Starts off malty. Actually, it starts off very malty. Loads of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar appear - even some chocolate. Chocolate flavor ends up segueing into a spicy finish (these two notes pair well together). While I really enjoy this beer in general, I'm disappointed it doesn't develop much beyond that. (3.5)
Mouthfeel: This is a fairly heavy-feeling DIPA (or maybe it's just a pepper beer), but the spiciness does a great job of cleansing the palate. Drinkability is fairly decent, with medium carbonation helping things out. (3.75)
Overall: Welcome to Scoville is Jailbreak's best beer in my mind. So, in theory, an imperialized version should be better. And it is. I feel that it's a poor DIPA (as the hops are very mild), but an excellent pepper beer. The maltiness does just enough to keep the spiciness in check, while the latter is certainly vibrant. Not only is it a great cooking adjunct (as I can attest to), it's a really solid beer in its own right. (3.75)
3.65/5: Nicely done, Jailbreak

A - Pours a dark copper amber color (the color of a British style IPA) with nice clarity and good head retention. On top is a thick, frothy layer of creamy foam.
S - Aroma is very light and very faint - caramel sweetness and some dry pepper spiciness. (The beer really loses points here.)
T - The taste makes up for the weak nose. Sweet caramel up front followed with pepper spiciness and ending with a lingering citrus bitterness and pepper warming in the back of the throat.
M - Creamy and has the texture of a cask style beer. Because of the pepper combo going on the back of the tongue goes bone dry while the rest of the mouth waters.
O - You'll have to like peppers and they do linger. Not overly hot but everyone has a different tolerance level for hot peppers and I happen to like them, my stomach may not appreciate it but hey, nothing a few Rolaid's can't fix and a fiery trip to the bathroom, other than that, all good.

Had at a tasting. At first I liked the interaction of jalapeno and hops. However after a few sips the peppers were the only thing you could taste.
