Tried this beer at the brewpub, and according to the beer menu, the idea of this beer is informed by British bitter, hence its name, colour and style. But, as I tasted it, it showed few signs of the typical characteristics one might expect of an English bitter or best bitter.

The appearance was quite handsome: served in a straight half-pint glass, it had a clear, amber colour (naturally) with a foamy and lasting head (rather like De Koninck Amber), with abundant carbonation. The smell was lightly malty with insignificant hint of hops... while on palate it was clean, crisp, with light and pleasant malty flavour, finished with a finesse but also refreshing, lightly nutty bitterness which was lingering enough to compensate for the lack of body as a whole. The serving temperature was apparently too low for an ale, and after leaving it alone for a while, the complexity of its smell and taste did not improve as much as I hoped for. As its mouthfeel was so clean and taste so light and fizzy, I failed to grasp why this sweating beer in front of me might have any direct connection with a British bitter. But apart from that, it's definitely a quaffable drink (esp. for summer) to go with the peanuts offered for free by the bar. Maybe it is meant to be best enjoyed this way(?).

Appearance: Served in a small pint glass. Clean amber body with a frothy and lasting head. Bubbly.

Aroma: Caramel malt, chestnuts, and popcorn butter.

Taste: Muddled and infected tasting with off putting chemical butter notes, over the top caramel sweetness, and almost not hoppy flavor to speak of.

Mouthfeel: Sweet, muddled, dirty, and buttery.

Drinkability: Next to nil.

On tap at the brewery 6 20 09 into a clean, clear glass. Review from notes taken there.

A Nice frothy head that stayed around. Some lacing over a kind of basic amber body.

S Light amber smell, right on target for the style.

T Nice basic amber taste, mature in its overall presentation, shows depth, understanding by the brewer of what amber should taste like. Nice balance of the medium roasted malt and hops.

M Moderate to full for an amber. The nice head reveals that it has a welcome "softness" to it.

D Great.

Notes: A treat to have at the brewery!

Sampled at the brewpub, the beer came out a cloudy pale copper under a one finger white head that is fairly creamy and shows good retention, leaving nice lace rings. The nose is very mild, with a touch of spice. The mouth is light and mildly carbonated. The taste is thin, with mild sweet fruitiness and just a trace of bitter in the finish. Very thin overall. Maybe this is OK as a beginner beer, but it is definitely not the major leagues.
