Notes/Commercial Description:
All can find solace in this ale's yin-yang of nutty
maltiness, and delicate, dryish hoppiness. For our
nut brown, an ale deep in auburn colour, we use
a blend of Munich, caramel and chocolate malts
to create a rich malty palate with a lingering dry
chocolatiness.

On tap at Steamworks brewpub, Gastown, December 2009.

Contract brewed by R & B Brewing.

Appearance: Opaque, amber-brown. Off white, thin head recedes leaving not much lacing. Nice colour though.

Aroma: Roasted malt and nut, some fruit.

Taste: Roasted malt, nut, hint of coffee and chocolate, some cherry fruitiness, distant vanilla. Smooth, with a slight sweetness from the fruitiness quickly tempered by a bitter, roasty, slightly dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full, silky, yet crisp.

Drinkability: Goes down easily, refreshing, with good flavour. Not as good as the nut browns from Howe Sound and Cannery Brewing, but a very nice brew nevertheless. Worth having.

At the Gaztown brewpub. Brown, with licorice. A malt story, some chocolate malt. But not a complex interesting malt story. Maybe a hazlenut. Medium mouthfeel. Too high carbonation.A litle off-sourness. Doesn't work. Just another brown. One of the weaker links in the product line.

Two years later and this beer gains a ton of flavour to go with the look and smell. Lots of balanced caramel malts with just the right finish this beer is one the best nut browns in BC. Glad I tried it again. Nice to see the regular rotation hitting the same quality levels as the seasonals

A - Clear brown copper.

S - Tart aroma and notes of raspberries.

T - Very dry. A bit nutty with some sesame seed flavour and bitterness in the finish.

M - A bit heavy for my taste.

D - Despite the rather terse review, I like this beer a lot - my favorite of the beers I've tasted here. Quite flavourful and delicious, but admittedly heavy for summertime or session drinking.

A very nice chocolate brown with a thin pale brown head. Smells malty with just the right amount of hops.

Taste is malt with hints of chocolate and nuts, with a wee trace of hops to balance it out. Aking to Sam Smith's, but missing the strong buttery flavour. Instead, you get a well balanced nut brown ale that doesn't have one flavour predominating.

On the mouth, it is a little thin but this lends for a bit easier drinking. Easily a session ale if it weren't for the cost ($4.70/16 oz. glass).
