Notes/Commercial Description:
As you look out over Vancouver's Coal Harbour, relax with this creamy delight. Don't let the colour fool you - this porter is rich but not overpowering with a head that lingers all the way down the glass. Just about anything goes with our Coal Porter, and you don't have to belong to "High Society" to enjoy a glass with oysters.

Brought to me with a beautiful 1-inch frothy, nitro-like head capping a completely black and opaque brew with mild carbonation and superb lacing that sticks all the way to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is heavily of roasted malt and rich dark chocolate with a light brown sugar sweetness, very clean and typical of the style.

Light in flavour - clean and mildly roasted malt profile with a slight lactic sourness and a bit of acidity. Some cocoa bitterness. A little plain but drinkable. Body is pretty light really, mildly carbonated, very British. A little bit creamy. This is downright chuggable but lacks flavour, nonetheless a decent session beer.

Pours black with brown highlights. A thick, creamy light brown head [nitro] with good lacing. Nice to look at.

Aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee and some dark chocolate.

Taste was rather perplexing. There was some dark chocolate and roasted malts, but taste was very light. I was expecting a lot more given the aroma. The lack of flavor was quite strange.

Mouthfeel was smooth and quite light. Dry at the end. Moderately cleansing.

Overall, a decent brew. Quite drinkable. Worth a try, just don't expect much flavor.

A - Pitch black with a solild head.

S - Aromas of coffee and roasted grain.

T - Slight tartness and loads of roasty flavours.

M - Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.

D - Indeed this tastes like a porter, and a decent one at that, but not a standout. Worth trying, and with a bit more body than most of the other steamworks beers.

Another "north american dry porter." Has the class porter appearance: dark ruby with a velvety brown head. Smells malty, and very suggestive of coffee. No sweetness or hops present.

Taste is different, but enjoyable. Very strong roasted malts obscure any hops that might be present. Tones of dark roast coffee and maybe chicory. A desert beer for sure, and it complemented my tiramisu very well. Has definite porter characteristics, yet demonstrates a flavour not like any porter I've had before. Very good.

This beer is great: tastes and smells good, and is easy to drink. My only criticism is one that seems to be trend with Steamworks in my opinion, and that is that many of their beers seem a tad thin.
