12 oz bottle into a Chimay goblet.

A: Pours a gorgeous straw color. The head isn't much, though - not even a finger high (white shade), and retention isn't any better (read: poor). No real lacing is left behind, either. But the body is beautiful enough to make me overlook its crappy head.

S: Honestly, I don't get much. Maybe a hint of bready malts, and a (admittedly decent otherwise) noble hop profile. At least what's there is quite nice - it would be a good aroma if it were stronger. As it warms up, it seems to become a little bolder.

T: There are some nice noble hops right from the start. They're mild, but they work really well. The finish is lightly sweet. To me, this beer is more conducive to drinking than analyzing - it doesn't have much in the way of standout qualities or bold flavors, but by gawd, it just works extremely well.

M: Quite dry and crisp. Well carbonated, too. Maybe a hair overcarbonated, but that's a trifle. This goes down more than easily enough.

O: The aroma may not have been up to snuff, but the actual taste of the beer was. And that's all I really care about. There's nothing like a good lager in the right mood, and this hit that 'right mood' extremely well. (1,205 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Golden in color, hazy. Short-lived white head. Spotty lacing.

S: Biscuity malts. Slightly doughy, light toast. Hints of herbal and grassy hops. Faint lemon zest. Very clean.

T: Pilsner malt lays down a grainy and biscuity flavor. Mild oily hop bitterness balances nicely. Grassy and slightly herbal/spicy. Perfectly clean. Grainy malt finish.

M: Light bodied. Slight malt firmness. Blast of aggressive carbonation cuts through the body. Crisp.

O: A pretty good stab at the Helles style. Not as honed as the best of them, but it's free of flaws and drinks nicely. Pretty good stuff, I could see a six pack disappearing quickly on a nice day. (687 characters)

A-Clear straw yellow, no carbonation, not much head either.

S-Malt, straw, wheat not much of anything.

T-Very similar to the nose, straw, wheat, semi-sweet. No bitterness.

M-Lighter, not much carbonation and watery.

O-A boring, bland, nothing new lager. No reason to have other than the tick. (296 characters)

Served on tap in a pint glass.

A - Yello and on the clear side. Not a lot of carbonation going on, but there was about a 1" head. Some lacing left behind in the pint glass.

S - Not much going on. The dankness of a lager, with some hops to it. Not bad, just not much there.

T - Munich Helles Lager's are my favorite stlye, and I don't think this is the best representation of the style. Not a bad tasting beer, but not nearly as good as other popular Munich Helles'. A fair amount of hoppy bitterness, with just a touch of an adjunct-like flavor, which I didn't like. A cut grass / flowery aftertase.

F - Pretty refreshing. I prefer my lagers to have a little more carbonation, though. Certainly easy to drink.

O - Not a bad beer, but there are Munich Helles' that are much better. Not a bad flavor, and I'd drink this again, but probably wouldn't buy it. Decent beer, but there are many better Munich Helles', Spaten, Lowenbrau, Hofbrau, and others. (954 characters)

A very good drinkable lager. Pour is a 1/2 inch of bubbly head that fizzes to just a mild lace ring. Color is a respectable bright bubbly yellow. Smells of lager yeast, biscuit, and a touch of herbal hops. Taste is about the same but very clean and crisp. I kept thinking how many lagers I had and none impressed me as much. Mouth feel is again bubbly, light and crisp.

Overall a step up from BMC and just enough flavor to impress a craft veteran like me this beer has it all. Give it a try. (492 characters)

S: Clean maltiness with a nice noble hop greeness

L: Crystal clear golden yellow, white creamy head that dissipates.

T: Clean, malty semi-sweetness with some noble hop flavor. Medium, leafy hops with a malty body following additional hop flavor. Nice balance with the hops leaving a very good impression over the malt. Very slight sulfur, but a good thing.

M: Medium bodied, medium high carbonation.

Really solid lager. Definitely has a more hoppy profile than traditional Helles. Great balance overall. (507 characters)

A: The beer is slightly hazy in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles on the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bready malts and spicy hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has lots of flavors of bready malts along with notes of spicy hops towards the finish. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and very well balanced. It is a good representation of the style. I could drink this all day long if I was sitting in a biergarten. (674 characters)

A: Pours a very lightly hazy medium straw yellow in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation and golden yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall sudsy white head that reduces to a medium patch of very thin film and a thin ring of large bubbles at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready and grainy malts with slightly lighter notes of spicy hops.

T: Similar to the smell, upfront there are moderate flavors of bready malts with a lighter amount of grainy malts and just a touch of sweetness. There are moderate flavors of spicy and herbal hops that results in a light to moderate amount of bitterness which lingers but only for a short amount of time.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: Very enjoyable and easy to drink, reminds me of sitting in a biergarten enjoying a pleasant afternoon. The lighter body, low ABV (which is well hidden), and enjoyable flavors make this one I would definitely have again. (1,034 characters)

Appearance: Poured into a Pilsner glass is a clear golden colored beer with only one finger of head.

Aroma: Golden raisins, dates, mild apricot, grassy, touch of biscuit. Twinge of dryness in the nose, and sweet maltiness.

Taste: Light bodied, grassy, apricot, light raisins and a crisp mouthfeel that finishes nice and dry.

Notes: Very drinkable all around good for anytime of year but even better for a warm day. Cheers. (425 characters)

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is malty, slightly sweet. Taste is crisp, malts, some grains, refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent brew, probably best enjoyed in warmer weather. (265 characters)

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Poured a pale yellow colored brew with a big white head. The head has a good level of retention but eventually fades to leave very little lacing.

Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a bready and caramel smell with some lighter hints of citrus.

Taste – The taste on this one is rather simple and non-complex. It taste begins with some lighter malty and bready flavor. These flavors are soon met by a light caramel sweetness and a light citrus flavor which take the taste to its end.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is light and the carbonation rather average. The light body suited the simplicity of the beer very well. A little more carbonation may have better suited the brew however by making it even more refreshing. With that said however, the mouthfeel overall was still done rather nicely.

Overall – Very easy drinking and a nice session style brew. Good for drinking on long nights with pals. (960 characters)

Bottle from Chevy Chase. I've lost track of how many years its been since I've had this beer. Five? In any case, there's no freshness date on this, so I hope it isn't ancient.

Clear golden yellow with a dense, white head that falls off to a disk rather quickly. The nose is rather excellent. MOderately hoppy with a blend of earth, lemon snappiness, and a touch of soap, this is a pretty enjoyable blend (despite the soap). This complements the malt character, which is a blend of crackers, bread, grain, dough and even a touch of honey. Very nice.

The palate is better. Opening with a firm bitterness, lemony, dusty and snappy (though not quite as nice as in Summer Love) flavors follow. Grainy and doughy for the most part, with a touch of honey, the malt character is quite nice, and nicely complements the hops. Drying, grainy and bitter on the finish with a mild mineral character that actually tastes like it might be a combination of the earthy hops and the carbonic acid. I really like the hop profile of this beer. Light in body without being watery, this beer has a medium-high level of carbonation (appropriately enough) and a drying finish that's mildly hoppy and mildly grainy. Very nice, recommended. (1,216 characters)

This beer has a golden color body with a small fizzy head that quickly disaptes ton a very, very thin lace around the edge. The smell has a lemony, malt aroma to it. The taste is well balanced with malt and some lemon hop flavor to it. It is well carbonated with a nice mouth feel, no after taste. Over all this is a nice easy drinking beer. (340 characters)

Pale yellow in color with a slight chill haze. Poured with a short fizzy white foam that quickly dissipated leaving no cap or lacings. Toasted malt, biscuit, and light lemon hop aromas. Medium bodied with assertive, but not fizzy, refreshing carbonation. Toasted malt with biscuit flavors up front with a tangy, citrus lemon hop bite through the middle. Finishes crisp and dry with a biscuit malt aftertaste. (408 characters)

Attractive straw yellow, with an ample head of fine white foam. Medium lace.

Aroma is grainy and malty. Appealing and straightforward.

Flavor is crisp and grainy -- picture-perfect for a lager. This one's rich and full-flavored, though, not at all watery. Maybe not to the same level as Victory's Prima Pils, but definitely a delicious and enjoyable lager. (358 characters)

Color is a light transparent gold, with a thin pale white head that fades quickly. The smell is mainly citrus with a bit of freshly baked bread. Nice, but I wish it were stronger. The taste is much like the smell - heavily citrus with a touch of bread. This has a stronger citrus taste than probably any other lager I've had. Very crisp, drinkable, and refreshing. Certainly a big step above most mainstream lagers. (415 characters)

On tap served in a pint glass

A - Clear straw with 1 finger white head with good retention and moderate lacing

S - pretty wimpy lager yeast, malt, citrus

T - Nothing standout, your standard lager, not very bitter with a nice touch of wheat.

M - Light body, high carbonation, effervescent, smooth.

O - Good summer beer, but Victory has so many other better brews I would never get this again. (396 characters)

First had: on tap at Victory, Downingtown, PA

First had this a while ago, but I just recently revisited it. It's not something I'd normally go for, and it's not my usual style, but if the owner is going to buy me one, who am I to decline?

Served in a 0.3L German-style tumbler, Victory lager pours a crystal clear golden brown color with a nice cap of foamy white head that retains well, and leaves just a bit of soapy lacing. Aroma of light German malts, light floral hops, basic, no nonsense. Taste follows the aroma, pale malts, crackery grains, floral hops, crisp, clean, nothing complex or amazing, but it's a standard lager, so what more can you ask for? Light body, and goes down as smooth as anything. For the style, this is a very good beer. If you want something simple and extremely easy to drink, yet miles ahead of the macro market, look no further. (865 characters)

12 oz bottle @ Rooster's Beak.

A: Caramel color, frothy two finger head.

S: Caramel, very distinguishable breadiness, and a little banana.

T: Strong malts all over; caramel, bread, butterscotch.

M: Medium-light and a little creamy.

O: It is very good and stands out way above other flagship lagers (*cough* Boston Lager *cough*). (334 characters)

Ba Review #112
Served On: 01/20/2012
Glassware: Duvel Glass
Labeled ABV:
Date/ Code: 02/13/2012

This bottle was mixed in with a sixer of home brews I got from a buddy of mine.

Look: Lemony yellow color with possibly some chill-haze going on. The head was nothing more than a white coating of film. Carbonation was ok. Nothing too crazy.

Smell: I got sort of a pancake batter with some citrus hop notes. Definitely not a bad aroma for your typical lager.

Taste: The taste was very light and crisp. Some faint citrus was up front with a very watery middle. The bready notes from the aroma were definitely not in the taste. This beer is more reminiscent of a summer ale or wheat beer.

This beer was ok. It would basically put this beer into the 'lawn mower' category. (770 characters)

The beer poured a clear pale yellow with a nice white head that produced a small white, foamy head. The beer gave off a nice grain aroma with a hint of citrus hops, I think. The taste of the beer was good, mostly grainy, but overall the beer was well balanced. The beer had a light, clean and crisp feel and it was extremely easy to drink. I had a couple without even noticing. Overall, a fine example of the style from one of the best breweries. (446 characters)

Crystal clear corn hue in body with a white top that fades fast. Smells of floral notes, a dab of honey, and some hops. Tastes of floral, honey, some hop bitterness towards the finish. Light in body with light carbonation. Pleasant and easily quaffable. Nice. (259 characters)
