A: Poured a slightly hazy amber yellow into an Ommegang chalice. The frothy head quickly dissipated leaving only a slight bit behind, and random carbonation bubbles rising to the surface infrequently.
S: It does have that Belgian yeast character that is associated with the style. Some spices are evident as well, most notably ginger.
T: On first impression the flavors definitely seem to fit into the Tripel category. The flavors added by the Belgian yeast show up first, followed by some of the spices, and finishing with a bit of alcohol heat on the back of the tongue. The yeast and spices tend to remain on the tip of the tongue throughout the sip, mellowing out the heat from the alcohol.
M: Initially quite round, but getting a little hot at the end, the mouthfeel tends not to feel too unbalanced, but it could be better. There's also a slight syrupy residue left behind in the mouth which I feel I could do without.
O: An all right tripel, nothing to make me want to pick it over any other example of the style, but also not bad in any real ways either. I personally prefer my Belgians drier than they decided to make this one.
