It says it is spicey and it is. Not my taste but to be fair it is as advertised.
-update had it again and it is better than I remembered. Def a top 10 beverage. (160 characters)

Look: Thin white head dissipates quickly. Lots of carbonation and a good amount of sediment floating around. Bright clear gold.

Smell: Banana esters, slightly peppery. Slightly Belgian yeasty.

Taste: Starts big crushed black peppery and big sweet banana. Pepper goes away quickly and Banana sticks around. Not really picking up much of the alcohol. The sweet malts cover it nicely.

Feel: Light to medium light bodied. Carbonation is nice. Slightly creamish.

Overall: Really solid. Bordering on really good. It's an interesting dilemma trying to decide on this $14 six pack or a $14 bomber of Tripel Karmeliet. Not saying its as good as Tripel Karmeliet, but there are more of these. (686 characters)

Banana and clove flavors in the aroma and taste. Not much in terms of "added spice". Yeast is dominant flavor. Not a huge flavor and no alcohol noted for a tripel with 8.7% (172 characters)

I was hesitant to rate this beer because 1) This is not my favorite style and. 2) I LOVE Victory and I didn't want to say anything bad about their offerings. But I decided to give my 2 cents because I need to catch up! Basically, this beer is overdone. I've told my friends that I think it tastes like mincemeat pie ale. The spices here don't do it for me at all. Yes, the alcohol is BURIED, but the flavor is a turn off for me. (428 characters)

Super weird tripel that tastes like a Belgian IPA. Very sweet, bright and mildly biscuity backbone balances the very aggressive peppery finish, with lemon-y notes of sweet and bitter. Warming alcohol, and still dominantly peppery, doughy, and sharp yeast flavours on the finish. Seems very confused as far as style/balance and overall I think it's just okay, but something about it (the finish?) secretly makes me want another sip... (433 characters)

This beer is highly deceptive. I had to ask the barkeep if what he had given me was the correct beverage because I did not believe a beverage of 9.5% ABV could look this way. After realizing it was in fact the beer I had selected, I began to evaluate its deceptive veneer.

The color was golden, not too dark, not very light, very light head, and the taste wasn't rich but it was not bland either.

If I had a friend who I wanted to introduce to why drinking beer with a big kick is worth the money over bland light beers, without scaring them away with an Imperial Stout, (even if they tend to be the greatest beers) I would introduce them to a beer such as this first.

Simple reasoning behind my plan is because most novices to the world of craft beers put more investment into what the beer looks like than actually tasting it. Plus, let's be honest, beers with high ABV's are not for everyone. However, if you can introduce something to them that is very drinkable, albeit not as full as flavor as I'd like, this is exactly the sort of thing to get them going.

Also, this is a good beer to start a night off with in my opinion. While definitely not the best beer in its class, given the ABV and the solid taste and solid kick, a great beer to introduce to people who need beerducation. Solid 4. (1,308 characters)

Does not carry much of the typical Belgian flavor or feel. Lots of dry grass malt, almost like a pilsner, and feels very watery. Not terrible on its own merit (though not great) it certainly is a bad example of the style. (223 characters)

Poured from bottle into a tulip glass

L: Pours a cloudy golden color with a thick white head. Only modest retention.

S: Mild yeasts/bread. Bananas and cloves. Somewhat spicy.

T/F: Nice yeasty esters. Baked banana bread and cloves/nutmeg. Nice alcohol warmth. Only minimal hops. Mild carbonation and easily drinkable.

O: An above average American take on the style. Nothing to challenge the Trappist brews but for a beer that is readily available on the East Coast this is a good pickup. I like it, and think it's better than the overall rating. (557 characters)

I really enjoy this beer, it has a higher ABV but who doesnt like that?

The taste is nice and smooth and a nice aroma to it.

I shared this with my girlfriend and even she gave it a 8/10

This is a very good domestic triple. My favorite triple is still karmeliet. But this is a nice beer for 1/2 the price. Give it a try it does not disappoint. (159 characters)

12oz. bottle poured into a goblet.

A- Clear Gold. Thin white lace. Very, very little lacing. Alcohol legs on the sides of the glass when swirled.

S- Lots of belgian yeasty with cloves.

T- Follows the nose well, some sweetness from the alcohol. There's a hint of banana from the belgian yeast. One dimensional for a Tripel, but not bad.

M- Almost syrupy, and not as carbonated as some examples.

O- An interesting take on a Tripel, but it won't be challenging La Fin Du Monde anytime soon. (502 characters)

Look: beautiful color, but crappy head retention

Smell: quite delicious actually, very spicy, but still sweet and mellow

Taste: very tasty, but now very complex

Feel: smooth.

Overall: A pretty tasty belgian Trippel, especially if you don't wanna spend too much (I got mine for $6.99/750mL), but be careful! The 9.5% will knock you on your ass pretty quickly! (365 characters)

Pale gold (4) with thick white head and good carbonation. Notes of plantains, sour balls and cloves. Clovey start, more fruity than spicy. Medium mouthfeel. There is a heaviness in the body. Malt and cloves hide alcohol. (220 characters)

To compare this to other Triples, it's bad. It's really not a Triple but as a golden, this beer is great!! Excellent yellow color, strong citrus smell, tastes smooth, excellent beer. (183 characters)

From bottle into a tulip, appearance was a light golden with some suspended particulate. Good initial head and retention.

S - firm belgian yeast notes, faint candi sweetness, spice notes of allspice/nutmeg, some leafy notes mixed in with some peppery yeast spice.

T - sweet start then lots of spice coming in with quite a bubbly carbonation. Notes of pepper, nutmeg, leafy, and yeasty, flowery and quite sweet also especially nearer the finish. Good and the sweetness coats the spices into an easy drinking belgian triple.

M - big, very thick with a n aggressive carbonation, and slightly boozy, leading to a very crisp finish but with a lingering spice aftertaste. Perceptible alcohol.

A good beer but its isn't perfect and has its faults. Taste is not but, the spice notes are forced, camouflaging the true yeast character. I think there is also a bit much alcohol presence, essentially it tries hard to be in your face, while maintaining a very sweet character to ease it all down. Lacks the finesse of the style, but it is worth a try. (1,043 characters)

Belgian Style Tripel
ABV: 9.5%
Glassware: Oversized wine glass, but brewery recommends a tulip.

Appearance: Translucent dark gold with effervescence, and a thin head.
Smell: Bold spicy aroma
Taste: Strong and rich in spices with herbal and flowery notes.
Mouth feel: A nice kind of bubbly.

Overall, a nice interpretation of a Belgian Tripel. "Nice" and "pleasant" seem to be the best description for this beer. Has some character in that the high ABV is foreshadowed in the taste and feel. You know you're gonna get a good swift kick. Where the "best" Belgians seem more refined and hide their ABV much better. This one has a classically American "Ruffian" character to it. (676 characters)

This is a solid, though not great Belgian. It has a nice dark amber color and a reasonably spicy fragrance. The flavor is nice, though not as good as some of the imports I've had. Fortunately, there is little of Victory's signature "hops mania" in the flavor. I like hops, a lot, but not too much in a Belgian. Victory has a tendency to go overboard with hops even in beer styles that generally don't warrant it.

Overall, this beer is not a favorite of mine, but it is enjoyable and I would gladly drink a couple every now and then. (533 characters)

L: slightly clear but dirty golden orange color if there is such a description. A slightly 1/2 finger head that dissipated quickly. carbonation is underwhelming. Not the prettiest beer in this style; rather average and not inviting.

S: yeast and malty nose upfront, with some hints of citrus fruits in the background as well as some medicinal aromas. Not a very dominant aroma and rather faint.

T: Citrus and spiciness and Malty upfront, with a slight medicinal, bitter and light chalkiness in the finish. Extremely sweet but only boarders on being syrupy. Tastes very similar to the aroma. Alcohol is balanced with the malt and hidden well.

M: moderately creamy and medium bodied. Tingly spice but not overly carbonated to my preferences with a pronounced sweetness. Slightly chalky on the finish.

O: An average but drinkable Tripel. The 9.5% ABV really sneaks up on you after a pint, so watch out! Could be more dry and digestable which tends to be the standard measure of a very good Belgian beer. A little too sweet for my tastes and not enough complexity for the style. I would try again if offered. (1,133 characters)

This beer does not get nearly enough credit for the tripel ale that it is. So many people buy this beer expecting another classic 'Victory' production (hoppy, seedy, earthy, etc) but this is so different and magnificent. Packs a really enjoyable smooth taste. (259 characters)

Amazing. Good carbonation, a sour aftertaste, definetly golden look. Sometimes you can taste an alcahol aftertaste is the only downside, but with a 9.5% its good (161 characters)

Just tried the golden monkey from victory and while I haven't had a lot of experiences with tripels I must say I was overall impressed.
C: Golden straw color, close to what you would expect put of a tripel
B: Medium body not too highly carbonated
T: Light citrus undertones with a slight dankness from the alcohol but very well hidden considering the ABV. Boozy numbness felt in the throat after the first couple sips but after 2 or 3 of these they definitely go a little more unnoticed
M: Mouthfeel is not very crisp but some noticeable carbonation. Does leave a slight "coating" of the tongue but not bad thing. A little on the thicker side of medium

Overall I would buy this beer again if I was seeking something with high alcohol and a little different from my normal ipa or porter/stout mood. Will definitely leave you warm and loose after a few of these (865 characters)

I was very disappointed with this beer. This is the first and last time I will be trying a beer from Victory Brewing. I'm sorry, but to be completely honest, I haven't had a beer quite this unpleasant tasting in a very long time. I would like to get my money back for this one. (277 characters)

12 oz. bottle poured into a Chimay goblet

A: Golden yellow with a collar and some slight lacing. Looks like yellow Gatorade from above.
S: Yeasty with some fruity esters. Quite singular in focus.
T: Again, kind of a one note. Tastes like it smells. Yeasty and Belgian.
M: Quite mellow carbonation, but it makes itself felt. Fizzy and foamy.
O: Not bad. A decent, easy to find Tripel that is quite strong and pretty cheap. (434 characters)

Not a bad effort by a brewery far better known for its stellar pilsner than Belgian style ales. Gorgeous golden color and a rapidly dissipating bright white one finger head. Yeast wafts from the pour. There is a dusty, musty yeast undertone that is not unpleasant, but might put some off. The mouthfeel is also noticeably unlively for the style. The high concentration of booze is virtually unnoticeable. In the end, it's a decent attempt, and one that I would enjoy drinking get again, but there are many superior offerings in this style elsewhere. La Fin du Monde and Long Strange Tripel come immediately to mind. (615 characters)
