Review from 3/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a golden amber, one finger white head and lacing. Light fruit, sweet malt, banana, clove aroma. Light fruit, Belgian spicing and a bit of a hop bite. Nicely balanced. A pleasant low-key tripel. Nothing exciting, but calmly well done. Worth a repeat visit.

12oz bottle poured into a goblet
No born on date

A: Pours a slightly hazy light straw yellow with 1 fingers width of bright white colored head,  which dissipates down fairly quickly.  Leaves small patches of spotty lacing.

S: Lots of clove, banana, citrusy with orange notes.  Not terribly complex but it smells delicious.

T: Follows the nose with the initial sip being filled with clove and citrus.  A bit of peppery spice, some hop bitterness comes out, which I don't particularly look for in the style, some vinous notes.

M/D: On the lighter side of medium bodied, with an appropriate carbonation.  Slightly drying finish.  ABV is wonderfully masked.  Drinkability is high.

O:  So admittedly this isn't all that great of a Tripel, but I have a soft spot for it, as before I really got into craft beer, I happened to get this once by chance, and thought it was amazing.  Plus, it gets bonus points for being insanely reasonably priced, and almost always readily available.  So, I gave it the benefit of the doubt in some of the rating categories.  I don't highly recommended it, but I do think it's a solid beer that I will almost certainly purchase again in the future.

A - Pale yellow color with a huge foamy and creamy white head. not much stick or lacing during the drink.

S - Banana peels, coriander, malts, sweet smelling.

T - This is a new style of beer for me so I'm not familiar yet what makes this beer tick. A nice bready like taste with a decent level of bitterness with a warming alcoholic finish. The malts are present and I seriously like this brew.

O - This beer has given me a new outlook on the Belgium style and I will definitely try more of these. I would recommend this for sure.

Poured into a Samuel Smith Imperial Pint Glass.

A: Massive white frothy head, good retention and great sticky lacing. Amber in color.

S: Ripe dark fruits, phenolic, brown sugar, taffy, floral, various spices, caramel, pecan pralines.

T: Alcoholic, malty, honey, molasses, overripe peaches, rock candy, ice wine, tingly on the palate, warming malty finish with an aftertaste that sticks around for a while and continues to warm.

This is one serious beer. There seems to be a bit more going on in here than your typical Belgian Tripel. Lots of sweetness but with some spices to balance it out a good deal. Very good beer.
