Poured into a pint glass, a clear, light, lemon yellow with lots of particulates floating around. Thick, fluffy white head that receded quickly to little lacing.

Smell is mostly banana and bubblegum, with just a little bit of sweetness.

Tastes pretty much as I expected from the nose. A little sweet, but overall pretty well balanced. Got a little of the 9% ABV as the beer warmed.

Nice feel overall, medium body with just the right amount of carbonation.

Probably a little too easy to drink given the ABV. I would buy this again.

Live review. This is another brew from Victory which I've been drinking for years, but never got around to reviewing.

Poured into my SA glass, I have to moderate the pour in order to get the entire bottle into the glass. The beer is a turbid lemon yellow, with a billowing white head. Head retention is surprisingly good for a beer this size. Some nice lacing develops, but not a huge amount. More turbid than I'd like to see a tripel ... lots of yeast floating in the glass. I've had wheat beers that weren't this turbid.

The nose is light, but spicy with banana and bubble gum and a touch of lemon zest. Perhaps at a warmer temperature, the nose would have more character.

Taste follows the nose pretty close; spicy clove-like banana esters up front, with a touch of bubble gum and lemon zest in the back. This is sweeter than it is dry, and carbonation makes it very refreshing. Mouthfeel is medium. The alcohol doesn't show itself, except perhaps in a bit of tummy warming. This is dangerously drinkable. I would not consider it a session brew, but the lively carbonation and refreshing qualities (almost like a saison) leave me thinking I could quaff 2 or 3 of these in an evening session.

I've never had a bad beer from Victory. Victory makes a line-up of solid brews, and this is another example. Prices are moderate, especially if you get this in one of the "Taste of Victory" assortment boxes, which include 4 each of the Golden Monkey, Hop Devil, and Prima Pils. This is definitely worth picking up. Recommended!

A: light and golden, about a finger of head that quickly dissipated
S: banana, alcohol, fruits
T: assorted fruits, spices, and hops. lots of flavor in each sip.

Appearance:
One finger head that quickly dissipated; little to no lacing
Crisp, golden color

Aroma:
Fruity, banana, sweet, perfume-y

Taste:
Very sweet and a bit sour
Banana, alcohol and spice (cinnamon, cardamon and pepper)
Small bitterness in the aftertaste, but not quite enough to balance the beer. The sweetness in the aftertaste can be a bit overwhelming.
Medium-bodied. Really like this beer's mouth feel for a Belgian trip.

This is a good sipping beer that will kick your ass if consumed too quickly or in excess. I enjoyed two over the course of a long summer evening. It was refressing and bursting with complex flavor on the tongue, but the sweet after taste was slightly annoying.

The Monkey. A solid variation on the tripel, great spices and very clear for the type.

However, this stuff will kick your ass. There's something else going on in this beer besides the alcohol.

I have a slight "trip" every time I have more than one of these.

Decent tripel,*great* LSD substitute.

I get this when I'm in the rare mood for liquor, but don't want bourbon.

Poured into a pint glass. Had a hankering for a Belgian. Not my first Victory brew. $14.50 at AAFES in El Paso for the six pack. A bit high. Golden, almost no head, very active carbonation, surprisingly clear. Very slight lacing.

Banana, cloves, some black pepper, and alcohol. Sort of like Pranqster without the "bubble gum" scent. Yeasty, smells like a Belgian.

Moderate to heavy carbonation lends itself to an excellent mouthfeel. Sweet malts with very light caramel giving way to spices up front, giving way to red apples and slightly tart white grapes. Alcohol on the back end; tastes like its 9.5 ABV. Booziness pretty prevalent like in Storm King, and two or three of these are plenty for an evening.

Even so, the price tag is off-putting. Taking into account the military mark-up, $14 and change is a lot for a six, even if it adds up to 2-3 sittings. I'd rather drop $9 or so for a Hennepin 750 ml or $7 for a Pranqster 4 pack. Glad I tried it, but it was a bit of a let down.

Ah, the monkey. Let's see what kind of havoc the monkey can release. Pint glass, as usual.

A: Love the suspended solids. It's like life just stopped for a moment in time, just for me to enjoy. Golden, radiant yellow, very slight carbonation trail up the side of the glass, two finger head that neatly compacts to a flat circle at the edge of the glass after much time. No lacing. Has some legs. Carbonation can be reconstituted by swirling as it goes.

S: clove, banana, light booziness, yeast, slight malts. For some reason, my nose is hinting me with something else. Could be just a hallucination...is this some secret banana bread recipe in a bottle?

T&M: sprightly. light carbonation, malts, and spicy notes with a strong alcohol content combine into a slightly sticky, malty coating followed by semi-sweet then bitter unripened apple and pear residuals. Kinda leaves a pleasant, foamy saliva feeling, complex.

D: tasty and deceptive, but one is plenty due to high ABV.

Overall, a nice example of the style. I like it only a little less than LFdM.

I was happy to see Victory brewing in my liquor store. I remeber reading about Hop Devil in a Michael Jackson book a while ago. served it well chilled in a pilsner glass. Poured a bright, crystal clear yellow with a haziness toward the top and a nice, bubbly two finger head. Fine lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma was bursting with banana, clove, raisin, and candied fruit. The first sip was flavorful with a tanginess from the bubbles. The hops in the finish linger for a while with a nice bitterness. Complexity was there but then thinned out a little. All around decent tripel. Cheers!

Cloudy, golden yellow with a big and bubbly white head out of a caged 750. Definitely yeasty in the aroma. Also sweet bread, some banana, and caramelized sugars. Apple, banana, and grape along with some spiciness in the flavor...oh yeah, there's also plenty of alcohol to taste. This beer just wasn't a big hit with me. It had great creamy feel, but really for a big beer, there wasn't a lot going on.

Bottle: Enjoy by Feb 3, 2013

Golden Monkey pours deep golden yellow with with a big frothy white head with some lacing that does not stick as it falls.

The aroma has fresh lemon and banana with a slightly funky yeasty ester with cloves and just the faintest whiff of alcohol.

The flavor is balanced between a big European pale malt flavor, big banana and clove and a big alcohol presence. Throw in a touch of lemon, rock candy and other spices with a finish that is lingeringly bitter. Alcohol is strong but not hot, being a pleasant warming which doesn't overpower the other flavors.

Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium, very carbonated but not overly so.

Golden Monkey is a sipping beer, but it's a good sipping beer. I can feel the alcohol halfway through the glass and the flavors are becoming more complex and integrated as it warms. It has a pleasantly warming character, however I'd be hard pressed to drink more than one in a sitting.

12 oz bottle. Reviewed from phone.

App: golden witha slight haze from a deliberate yeast inclusion. Minimal head.

Victory
Golden Monkey
Tripel with spices
ABV 9.5%

L= 4.0 Pours a creamy, thick, white head into a light orange body and big bubbles. Lots of carbonation.

S= 4.0 Nice yeast and spice cluster on the nose.

T= 3.5 Upfront sweetness with medium spice on the palate. It has a pleasant, refreshing, finish with a bit of horseblanket and barnyard.

F= 4.0 Light refreshing feel. High in carbonation.

D= 4.0 This would be a nice session beer, lots of carbonation would perhaps be filling after a time. The spice could have made this beer amazing but it's an ok triple. Decent brew from Victory

Golden Monkey was a cloudy pale gold with a bright white head, that finished to a film atop.

The nose had an extreme wheaty fermented blast to it, initially and throughout. Ripened pear and strawberries, coriander, and a dash of lemon zest made up a substantially potent aroma. All of which covered the alcohol very well.

The wheat was still pronounced in the flavor, but more equaled by sweeter pear and banana, and had even a slightly sour strawberry whack to it. Coriander and and a sour apple skin flavor made up the finish.

The body was quite robust, very mouth-coating. Copious carbonation settled down and the brew finished chalky and clean.

No lack of flavor in this one, that's for sure.

Pours golden. Hazy. Aroma lacking. Taste, lots going on, didn't like the yeast sweetness and undertones of apple.

Mouthfeel thins, which was welcome since I didn't like what it brought to the table upfront. A little expensive and tough to drink to be deemed a drinkable beer. Pass.

Pours a light gold with a thin white head, nice lacing.

Smells sweet with a slight malt and yeast hint.

Tastes sweet, hints of fruit.

Medium body with lots of carbonation.

I split a bomber with my wife and didn't really want any more. Tastes almost identical to my home brew that I though had yeast bite. Overall not a bad tripel but there are much better options out there.

On-tap at Twain's in Decatur, GA.

Pours a hazy lemon-yellow color with a two-finger white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of pears and bread-y sweet malts. Also present are mild amounts of clove.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Sweet malt flavors up front have a bread-like heft backing them up. Midway through the sip light fruit flavors come into play - mostly pear but with hints of banana. Very mild spices enter into things right before a crisp ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall this was a solid tripel but nothing to write home about, good for fans of tripels that are malt-dominant, as opposed to those dominated by fruit flavors and spices. Worth a shot if you see it around.

s-smell of various spices give the beer a nice aroma

Poured from a bomber into my Chimay goblet, golden (a little more cloudy than Prima) with a two finger white head. Very pleasant smell, mostly of bananas with a slight touch of alcohol. Tastes a lot like it smells...though with more alcohol than banana. I actually dry heaved a little bit as I held it in my both. I'm about 2/3 of the way through with my bomber and feeling a little woozy, so I don't drink I could drink more than one bomber in an evening, though it is a pretty decent tripel.

A - Bright lemony yellow body with one finger of quickly receding white head. Minimal lacing. A lot of suspension in a clear body, rather offputting.

S - Strong banana smell. Slightly yeasty and a little alcohol smell. Overall pleasant.

T - Banana taste dominates this beer. Very spicy, possibly ginger or maybe cinnamon. Fruity sweetness. Not much hop bitterness, although the slight alcohol taste gets stronger as it warms up and may even become a sipper for some.

MF - Nothing special, feels decently heavy but doesn't have much body to it besides that.

D - As it warms up, the alcohol taste starts getting overpowering. Rather hard to finish and want to grab another. Probably fair for such a high ABV.

Pours golden with a nice white head that dissipates into a thin layer and leaves little lacing. Aroma of sweet bready malt, some banana and a hint of clove and spice. The taste is quite complex. A very nice, very German malt background supports banana, clove, white pepper, ginger, apple and grape notes. This beer definitely has some bitterness, but is sweet overall with the alcohol showing through some, but not dominating. Medium bodied with a slightly sticky mouthfeel, this beer does not strike me as being the most drinkable with the alcohol showing through a bit too much, but it is still pretty decent. A creative American take on a Belgian style.

A-pours a very carbonated bubbly golden yellow color. A little pale, with lots of bubbles rising to the top. The head is thinner and bubbly and dissipates quickly without a trace left.

S-a light toasted bready malt comes in up front. Light phenols come in next followed by a nice sweetness of banana and pear come follow the bready malt, clove and a touch of peppery spice finish off the aroma.

T-the taste brings much more spice and phenols. Caramel malts and notes of toasted biscuit set in up front. The peppery spice and clove follow and are quite strong. Banana and pear add an underlying sweetness with a light hop bitterness at the finish

M-this is medium to full bodied and extremely creamy. The carbonation is high and gives it a nice crisp finish. Its wet throughout and I can't get over the creaminess

D-this has a fantastic feel to it and very solid tastes. It is quite malty forward and lighter on the sweetness; but it is pretty solid.

Victory Golden Monkey Ale... Tripel style at 9.5% alcohol. Nice clean look of bottle style with quad armed monkey and one eye in belly label. Poured into tulip glass from 12oz.

A- Pours a beautiful golden fluid with thick and thin yeast floating suspended animation. Nice fluffy white head stays an inch thick with clinging lacing on rim.

S- Straight up Belgian yeast are upfront with light farmhouse scent appearent. Scents of alcohol are dominate with mild nose of floral hops.

T-M- Taste is heavy alcohol esters and fresh tangy hops in the front. Second is a more pronounced yeasty sweetness that is followed by a thin carbonated yeast mouthfeel. Smooth but bold with heavy alcohol presence and bite from hops. I like this one... but for the style a little off.

D- I'd buy again but with a knowing of the fact i'm buying the alcohol not the style beer.

Pours a cloudy, glowing yellow with ample floaties and a substantial off-white head which dissipates quickly leaving foamy lacing; a great looking beer.

Yeasty aroma with banana, citrus, clove, and a hint of alcohol.

Taste is sweet, with clove, citrus, yeast and malt, finishing with sort of a grapefruit peel/alcohol tingle.

I actually thought I was picking up a six-pack of Prima Pils, but discovered my mistake when I got home. I'm glad I tried it, but I'm guessing I won't finish the rest for awhile. Can something be crisp and cloying at the same time?

This is a nice american beer i drank as a prelude to the pretty things tasting @ the stag's head last wednesday.

Nice opaque but shiny golden to orange pour. frothy white head, also very clean and bright.

Spicy smell, with a considerable citrus feel and a certain yeast alcohol feel at the back of the nose.

Taste is somewhat medicinal, I'd say it's tasty though, malty and sweet, however blunt and strong rather than the more subtle nature of these belgian flavours. Perhaps a bit too strong which makes me give it less than it might deserve.

full bodied, refreshing but thick nonetheless. very worthy beer by victory.

i had an expired one of these in chicago about three years prior, which greatly affected my view of this beer and style. glad i got out of that funk.
pours a clear golden with a one finger white head. not as lively as expected. smells strong of coriander, with backrounds of flora and citrus. the coriander kind of runs a muck over the other pleasant/fainter smells. the taste is heavy. sweet beginning with clove, yeast, and grain. finish is a strong, peppery spice. crisp with high carbonation on the tongue. completely masked alcohol. leaves a bit of a grassy taste on the palate. im glad i got to try a nicer version of this brew, but a bit too much coriander, clove, and pepper for me to even enjoy it.
