Expected more out of a tripel (one of my favorite varieties)

Poured into a tulip glass. Had a nice gold color, and initial smell was good...

unfortunately beer did not hold up over the entire bottle.

high alcohol negligible... I am sticking with more authentic tripels (271 characters)

Appearance- Pours a bright yellow goldish color. Okay head at first, but it disipates quickly. No lacing. The beer itself looks murky. Even after it settles it looks like there is some yeast particles floating around.

smell- couple of different fruit notes here. Bannana is definetly present. I can faintly pick up some alcohol in there.

taste- Alcohol is well hidden. There is a sweet sugar taste which I would assume should be present in the style. Some fruity notes. Yeast is definetly present. It's rounded out by some spice which isn't pleasant (to me) at first, but it grows on me throughout the experience.

mouthfeel- light/medium bodied. Nothing bad about it. Nothing super about it

drinkability- Not my style of beer. Maybe with a meal, but certainly not sessionable. I think I might like it with a Cajun dish. 9.5 ABV will catch up to you real quick if you session these. The only upside is you only need three or four to catch a pretty strong buzz and call it a night.

Not my favorite beer from Victory. Definetly not my favorite style of beer. I'm sure there are better ones out there in the style as well. (1,124 characters)

Very tasty and cheap Belgian Style Triple. It's no where near the level of a Trappist Ale, but it's very good and strong for the $1.40 I can get it for at World Market during their 30% off Build Your Own Six-Pack sale. (219 characters)

Poured golden with a large, active head. Aroma is soapy and astringent (but good). Flavor is laced with a subtle pepper component. The lingering flavor is a sourness across the roof of the throat. This beer drinks very easily considering the ABV. (263 characters)

Appearance: Yellow/amber in color and very cloudy with lots of yeast. The white head quickly dies and leaves a little lace.

Smell: Fruity with banana and yeast on the nose.

Taste: The taste aligns well with the smell. Plenty of banana and fruitiness. Clear alcohol flavor that's warming in the mouth.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is medium and warm.

Overall: This is a decent beer, but there are better tripels out there. The alcohol flavor needs to be balanced out. (466 characters)

12 oz. bottle

Appearance: Cloudy Golden Yellow with a soapy head that is 3 fingers deep

Smell: Banana with Cloves. Maybe a little bit of vanilla

Taste: Banana flavor with a spicy clove bite when the beer touches the tongue. A sweet malty flavor profile overall.

Mouthfeel: A spicy brew with high carbonation. Maybe a little bit too carbonated for all the flavors to come through.

Overall: A pretty decent Tripel but not as good as some of the oth (453 characters)

Part of my first "build your own six pack" at one of the local stores, I figured I'd give this a try. Golden Monkey looked fairly interesting, and hey, if I ended up not liking it, I at least had an amusing name to fall back on.

Smelled really nice when I first cracked it open, and poured really nice, although there wasn't that much head. Fairly hoppy aroma.

Initial taste is really great, only once you've swallowed do you get the hint this is a 9.5% beer. No powerful alcohol taste at all, and full of flavor.

Nice feel, fairly light if anything. You wouldn't expect a beer this strong to feel this light.

Very drinkable. Good to have one or two with a few friends. (678 characters)

Smells of spices, bananas,cloves
Appearance, hazy, very light head that went away quickly, very little bubbles or carbonation. Very surprised considering many people reported heavy carbonation and thick head.
Taste of belgian sugar, light, but almost flat tasting.. Disappointing..
Mouthfeel was on the flat side, but not completely.. A bit sugary..
Overall I was very disappointed,, I love all of the Victory beers I have tried so far, and this was the worse by far. Maybe it was an old bottle I got, or hope that is the case. Surprised because of the all the other good reviews. (582 characters)

Ah the "Monkey". A good a place as any for my first review.
I really enjoy everything Victory has brewed (Dirt Wolf is a personal favorite).
As far as triples go, this one stands out from the crowd because it's unique. Banana seems to be proudly up front...Hense, monkey( I'm guessing) with a nice blend of spices. It's sweet but not too sweet. The 9+ ABV is masked well by all the other flavor going on here.

It pours a clear golden color (be careful not to dump in the sludge from the bottom or you'll have a murky monkey with floaters).

Unique smell and flavor as I mentioned...

Lacing was thin an left quickly.

Mouthfeel is nice ...nice carbonation and not thick and syrupy like other triples. Very drinkable.

Overall this is a very good, different, triple ale.
Cheers! (782 characters)

You gotta be ready for this one. After a few sips, your mood has been mellowed. This is a very pale light in color. But don't let that fool you, you silly monkey. There was plenty of carbonation and mouthfeel in my bottle. The lacy beads clung to the sides of the glass very nice. Some bottles I had were a little hazy. Not this one, it was crisp and clear looking. Very nice. Nice Belgian yeast and hops, although not too many hops. Or were they over powered by the pure amount of Belgian Candi added? I think it's true Belgian counterparts aren't as potent (close but not quite). It drinks very smooth for that much alcohol. Makes you want to reach for another, if you can find it. (683 characters)

Poured an oily-looking gold color. The only way I can describe the head of this beer is... nonexistent. There is no cap or lace - just a body of slick straw-colored haze. The nose is pretty much a yeasty banana bread, with a lot of the floral and spice scents backing it. It's got a decently enjoyable aroma to it. The spice and alcohol give it a warming aroma, too. It wasn't until after I'd poured the beer that I had read the ABV on its label. Despite being a strong beer (and at 9.5% ABV it definitely deserves that title) the heat is fairly well hidden in its body, which comes through with similar characteristics - yeasty; bready; banana-ish; subtle prods of citrus flavors. That being said, the taste really is quite shallow; there's not much to it, other than that tangy banana heat.

It's not a bad beer, per se; it's just a little boring. I could have a few of these, though I wouldn't recommend too many since I'm sure this beer could wreck you pretty quick. (970 characters)

I was surprised for how high the alcohol content that the beer was so drinkable. Little bits of carbonation. Head doesn't last long.

T - It's good, hint of apple. Crisp. It needs something though

A - Nice, but lacks depth.

D - Very drinkable.

I'll have another, someday. (274 characters)

It has a murky yellow color.

Smells fruity. Smells of papaya and mandarin oranges. It's a pleasant smell.

This beer could be more flavorful. The taste is similar to the smell but you get most of the fruitiness in the finish.

Nothing special about the body. Medium bodied but on the lighter side.

The high alcohol content seems to be "masking" the potential flavors of this beer. I like it but it could be so much better. (425 characters)

Had at a dinner overlooking the Baltimore harbor. Paired with such items as foie gras PB&J and cheese sticks.

Appearance: golden, cloudy, no head after the pour

Smell: grassy, hoppy

Taste: strong upfront in alcohol, followed by hops and grassy flavor

Mouthfeel: pleasureable, subtlety of flavors was brought out by slow sipping

Overall: nice belgian triple with obviously high ABV, on the petey side, not as complex as comparable belgian triples, but enjoyable all the same (479 characters)

Got on tap at The Pint Room. Served in a 13oz fluted glass.
Golden pilsner style color with intermittent lacing.
Smells a little sweet.
Taste is slight banana and clove.
Light mouthfeel with a nice amount of carbonation.
Overall pretty good - a mix between Hoegaarden and Stella. (281 characters)

This beer! Pours the dankest golden yellow to ever fill a glass. Much like the color of urine when you're extremely dehydrated and perhaps have taken some Aleve or ibuprofen. Following the instructions and giving a vigorous pour to raise a foamy head , the aromas really opened . I also allowed it to slowly warm as I was mopping and bleaching the kitchen floor since my dog has some kind of bladder issues that make her eat dog food that makes her pee more, which is good for her but bad if you happen to have to work all day. One word: linoleum. Linoleum floors everywhere. And the taste is great . Very smooth. (613 characters)

I was hesitant to rate this beer because 1) This is not my favorite style and. 2) I LOVE Victory and I didn't want to say anything bad about their offerings. But I decided to give my 2 cents because I need to catch up! Basically, this beer is overdone. I've told my friends that I think it tastes like mincemeat pie ale. The spices here don't do it for me at all. Yes, the alcohol is BURIED, but the flavor is a turn off for me. (428 characters)

Yellowish orange color with a thick white head.

Smell brings some yeast, fruit, spice, and malt.

Tastes great, nice mixture of malt and fruit. A surprisingly great beer from Victory

Feels very nice, almost perfect carbonation in my book.

I could drink this shit all night, so good.. (286 characters)

Pours a light gold with a thin white head, nice lacing.

Smells sweet with a slight malt and yeast hint.

Tastes sweet, hints of fruit.

Medium body with lots of carbonation.

I split a bomber with my wife and didn't really want any more. Tastes almost identical to my home brew that I though had yeast bite. Overall not a bad tripel but there are much better options out there. (382 characters)

Poured into a Pint glass from a recently filled Growler with a beautiful foamy head and strong golden color.
The smell is overwhelming with hints of Fruit, Cloves, Flowers and Yeast and it taste even better!!
There are strong citrus notes in the beginning and a smooth chewy taste of Flowery Hops for the encore.
The ABV is well hidden in this Light Bodied beer and it can sneak up on you fast. Like a Monkey with several arms hitting you over the head with a baseball bat!!

I would definitely buy this again and highly recommend it. Looking forward to finishing the Growler...tomorrow! (591 characters)

12 oz. brown bottle poured into a pint glass "Enjoy by Dec. 15 2013" stamped on the front of the label.

Look- Golden color, very clear. I got a huge head on my pour that dissipated quickly and left a little foam and tons of lacing.

Smell- Pear, Bubble gum, cloves and a bit of booze.

Taste- Pretty simple taste for the style, a slightly dull spiced flavor followed by some Belgian yeast and a noticeable amount of alcohol.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied. You can feel the alcohol going down.

O/A- Not impressed, most beers of this style hide their ABV alot better and have a more complex taste. I probably won't be getting this again. (636 characters)

poured a light gold into a tumbler...

Has a nice friendly smell to it, inviting.

first taste reminds me of a hefe...the banana, the clove, etc, but not as pronounced. It's a bit spicy on the back-end. I can tell that this little guy has got some ABV to it.

Overall, I think this was a good one to have on the back-porch after a particularly stressful day...just got to remember not to drink it so fast next time (415 characters)

Not much of a smell to it, and poured it into a snifter no less. Color is a nice golden hue, hence the name. Minimal head, nice mouthfeel with a delightful aftertaste of light hops. I definitely taste the spices it advertises but i'm not going to lie, I can only say what I think I taste and thats basil. Hint of citrus after you have sipped it a bit. The monkey has a whopping 9.5 APV and gives a nice warm buzz, only drink a couple if you don't want to be hammered. Shame on you monkey! You should be spanked! If your new to this beer, drink slightly chilled. I prefer it room temp. (584 characters)

Pours a peachy-orange color with a pinky-finger sized head that vanishes fairly quickly (by the time I walked from the fridge to the living room) leaving only an outline around the rim of the glass. Looks cloudy and I can only see a few tiny bubbles near the surface. It smells sweet and citrusy--maybe even like melon, but I'm not entirely sure. It doesn't taste as sweet as it smells--it tastes more like cloves. When I was a kid we used to make clove-studded oranges at Christmas--Golden Monkey tastes like those smell--if that makes any sense. Mouthfeel is good--smooth and lightly carbonated. I would drink a bunch of these if I wasn't such a lightweight. ;) (663 characters)

Pours a nice golden color with a slightly off white head. Very good carbonation. Smells a bit spicy and yeasty (is that a word?). Complex taste, medium bodied mouthfell, and good drinkability for the ABV. Solid American Tripel and one I would love to have again. (262 characters)
