Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Firestone pint glass
From: Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, Calif., on Dec. 27, 2012
Price: $19.99 for a variety 12-pack
Misc.: Box said enjoy by March 10, 2013.
Poured a honey, caramel amber color with about two fingers of khaki white head. No lacing on the sides of the glass on the way down and below average retention on the tops.
Smelled big whiff of floral hops up front with a bit of a caramel malty finish. Also got light notes of citrus hops (lemon and, even less so, grapefruit), wet cascade hops and pine. Maybe even a bit of rye in there. Not much bitterness on the nose.
Tasted similar to the nose, but within even more malts and more bitterness. Hops seemed to be dominated by cascade hops, but also citrus (light lemon, grapefruit and orange) and some pine late on the tongue. Still got some rye and also some iced tea. Malts were mainly caramel.
Light-to-medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Lively (above average) carbonation. Long, bitter finish.
An OK IPA if you like the maltier kinds. The best of the Victory variety 12-pack for me was the Headwaters Pale Ale, followed by this IPA (Hop Devil), then maybe the Prima Pills and Golden Monkey.

Had at Chickee's and Pete's during a rained out Phillies game. Paired with seafood, mussels - white with garlic... Nice local beer. Dark body... Deep amber, small white head, less than a finger. Smell-hopolicious!
And tasted the same... Crisp tight and well worth the wait.

amber color, floral hop aroma and good amount of bitterness on the taste. well balanced, solid malty backbone. pretty perfectly balanced IPA and one of the most consistently decent ones out there. wouldn't take it over a lot of others but its always available and fresh
