Imperial pint from the tap was beautiful. A thick, foamy white head sat atop the dark amber beer. The head remained throughout and left ample lacing.
Aroma and flavor were slightly unbalanced in favor of hops. Hop character was very citrus, with strong grapefruit qualities. Flavor was strongly bitter with floral afternotes. Well-rounded IPA, but slightly more malt character would have benefited the overall impression.
As with any highly hopped beer, Hop Devil was a little oily, which helped the hop flavor to hang around a little bit.
I was definitely ready for a change of pace when this one was finished.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Burley Oak snifter (best by 5/9/14)
A: Hazy, copper colored body. Almost no lacing and only a pencil head.
S: A nice, pine malt body, with an almost caramelized sweetness in there. I even get a bit of onion/garlic in there.
T: So, apparently this is 3 months old since it expires in 2 months and they date Hop Devil with a 5 month shelf life. Whoops. The hops have really died out. All malt here. Light and piney. Piney hop aftertaste. A bit watery even.
M: Prickly, coarse and rough. Gets smoother as it warms up.
O: I will try to get it fresh, but I have had older IPAs that have tasted better than this.
