Bold, spicy and menacingly delicious, this American-hopped IPA offers an aromatic punch and follows through with a lasting, full-bodied finish

Live review after pouring a bottle right from the fridge into my SA glass. I was looking at all my reviews, and noticed I'd never reviewed this beer, which I've been drinking for over ten years ... how could I be so remiss?
I had to moderate my pour in order to fit the entire bottle into my SA glass. This produced a nice orange-copper ale, with 2 fingers of stiff foamy head the color of orange rind. Very nice looking, and some nice lacing develops.
The nose is a little weak, but perhaps its because this isn't a really fresh bottle (label shows it to be a month past "Best by" date). Citrus hops come to the fore of the nose, but caramel malt is well supported as well.
The taste is hop dominant as one would expect for an IPA. Mostly grapefruit, but perhaps some orange rind as well on the palate. Caramel maltiness makes a respectable bid at balancing, but is constantly pushed back by the hops. Slightly dry but no where even close to astringent. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is spritely enough to make this very refreshing. The carbonation also adds a little bite to the hops. I'd rate this as a very drinkable IPA, as its very balanced. It might be a tad high in ABV to be a true 'session brew', but I know I've had several of these in an evening session without ill effect.
I've always considered Victory to be one of the nation's premier brewers, mostly due to their consistently good beers and adherence to style guidelines. Hop Devil is a fine example of an American IPA. I will drink/buy this any time I get a chance. Definitely in my 'top ten' American IPAs, and worthy of a hearty recommendation.

Not as good as I remembered it from back in '08.

From a fresh tapped sixtel keg. ...Tastes like an experiment. If there was a target, they missed it. Has a lot of good in it, but the combination doesn't work. Sort of like an Oktoberfest or Marzan trying to be a high gravity/bubbly IPA. But it looks luscious, creamy head, nice nose, but then goes South.

Poured a semi-lucid copper color from a 12 oz. bottle (Best by Feb. 15 23) into a standard pint glass with a creamy barley colored finger high head that clings to the glass as it recedes. Aroma is mainly malty with overtones of cereal grain and grapefruit. Taste is bitter throughout but very well balanced with the malty sweetness and spicy alcohol flavor on the follow through. The bitterness lingers with creamy thickness in the mouth for this medium to full bodied brew. There is even a nice carbonation tingle on the tongue. It's been so long since I've had one of these that I had forgotten how good they are. This is an iconic ale that lives up to the hype.

Pours out an amber color with a nice thick head. The taste is somewhat fruity and truly different. Some notes of fruit, like blackberry or blueberry with a hoppy finish. All in all a great tasting beer.

Maybe I'm drinking from a mis tapped keg, but this was too malty and dark for me. Wanted a hop bomb, got a malt grenade

Tasty traditional IPA from Victory, this might be my favorite from the brewer. Great balance of hop bite and malt backbone. Would look for this fresh again.
