A: Copper with an off white head that clings to the glass.

S: Very hoppy and spicy, slight grain. Pine for sure.

T: BOLD! Huge hop kick, pretty extreme with a spicy sting. Malt presence that gets beat down by the hops.

M: Creamy and full bodied, nicely crafted. Goes down smooth.

O: Nice drinkable IPA.

On-tap at the Lucky Dog.
Standard shaker glass with a small head cap. Copper in color with amber hues. Head was small but retained very well and left a trail of lace rings in it's wake. Fresh nose of pine and citrus. Malt hits up front followed by citrus and piney hops. Finishes bitter and dry and leaves you wanting more. Solid drinkability if your a hop fan. A well made IPA from Victory.

Victory HopDevil poured an amber color, with no head. It smelt of one thing, hops. It tasted just of liquid hops. It was not the easiest to drink, but overall a fantasitc beer, very hoppy, and worth a try, but this wouldnt be a beer for everyone, but a real beer fan would enjoy it.

Reading all of these rave reviews, I'm wondering if the very hoppy beer I had before this one affected my taste. I was underwhelmed. Had this @ the Parkside Tavern in Baltimore.
appearance: minimum head, almost no lacing. The hops were there and it's very smooth but expected much more, given the name and the previous reviews. Will try again to see if I just had an "off experience."

A - It had an amber-like color with a soapy head. The head dissipated pretty quickly but it left a pretty nice lacing.

S - Very hoppy. Obvious earthy and grapefruit tones. Malt tones were also pretty obvious.

T - Excellent IPA. There was a bit of a bread-like taste to it. Very nice and slightly tangy.

M - Tangy yet refreshing. Pretty smooth taste

D - For an IPA it is pretty sessionable. I had two kicked back pretty quickly before I knew it.

I had this up in North Conway. I must say Delaney's Hole in the Wall surprised me with this brew. I picked it at random and I wasn't disappointed. Worth a ride.

A - nice pour from the taps at 27 Mix in Newark. Medium amber-orange, moderate head with good retention and a great sticky head.

S - tasty base of caramel malts with lots of varied hop characteristics layered on top: grass, clove, orange peel, cardamom

T - all of the above come together nicely. Consistently bitter from start to finish, but not excessively so.

M - medium body, quite sticky for something only in the 6-7% range

D - the perfect session IPA? If this ain't it then I don't know what is.

Reviewed from my notes. The beer has a dark amber color and a thin tan head. There is some carbonation rising. There is some hop presence in the nose, but not as much as I expected. I can also smell some graham cracker malt sweetness. It has a very bitter flavor. It hits your tongue bitter, swallows bitter and lingers bitter. In addition, there is also a grassy hop characteristic to the taste. Not too much sweetness. Nor is there much mouth coating. It has a medium body and average levels of carbonation. It is very drinkable. There's lots of bittnerness, but it never gets to be too bitter. I could have a few rounds of this.

A: Very deep copper, great white head, with excellent rings of lacing. Haven't had a beer look this good in a while.

S: Quite a bit of hops, but also really sweet and bready.

T: Definite hop punch to begin with, mainly pine, but also a candy/fruity sweetness. The hop taste lingers for sure on the bitter aftertaste.

M: Pretty thick, nice stickiness to it.

D: Really enjoyed this brew, a definite winner for Victory.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a clean, clear copper color with a head that was just off-white and had good retention and lacing.

The aroma was nicely balanced between the hops and malt, with traces of pine, citrus and floral notes all apparent. The flavor was very similar and had many of the same features, with a nice dry finish.

The body was very good, smooth and nicely coating without being overly sticky. Drinkability was also very good, for a hoppy beer it goes down smoothly and having several is a joy.

Overall, a very good example of the style that is certainly worth your time.

A - pours a dark golden/copper color with soapy white head that leaves a good amount of lacing
S - didn't get much here, a little sweet maltiness and some hops
T - citric hops with some floral notes, really sweet substantial malt backing, very well-balanced
M - medium-bodied, not as full-bodied as one might expect from the sweet malt flavor, slightly sticky, goes down really smooth despite the hop bite
D - definitely drinkable and definitely tasty. I can't pinpoint why but I don't think I'd want to toss back more than one or two in a sitting.

A-Had a goblet of this on tap at the Muddy Pig, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Served with a nice two inch creamy head and a bronze color.

S-Nice pine and citrus scent, hops really coming through, living up to its name.

T-Very refreshing ale, citrus, grapefruit maybe, fairly sweet.

MF- A lot of carbonation up front and nice dry finish.

D- I am really liking these hopped up beers, even with the higher abv of HopDevil, I could sit and drink a few of these in a row.

A-Thick, perfect head with brilliant orange color

S- Fresh flowery inviting aroma - smells like fresh hops rubbed between your fingers

T - Flowery, sweet malty with slight citrus exoloding into a slightly bitter hop blast finish, absolutely fantastic well structured IPA

M - Very carbonated, but not overly so - medium on the palate

D - Very drinkable for an IPA especially for a cold weather brew - not a session beer, but one definately calls for several more

A: Pours a deep golden yellow with a thin whit head and decent amounts of foamy lacing.

S: Some nice earthy hops mixed with hints of pine and citrus. I like the aroma of IPAs, but this one is just about average.

T/M. A refreshing light to medium body contains hints of tropical fruit up front. A good dose of earthy hops come through in a fairly bitter finish. Pretty good balance is achieved between the bitter and sweet flavors here, leading to a tasty, crisp, and refreshing quaff.

D: A nice drinking IPA with a reasonably low abv., making it good for a short session or for drinking with wings. Just don't have too many - 6.7% will catch up to you pretty quick! Not my favorite, but a solid all around representation of the style. It's not uncommon for this to be one of the best beers on draft at local establishments in upstate New York.

This was the first IPA I ever had. Had it on tap tonight for the first time at Apollo Grill, Easthampton MA. Dark orange with a nice off-white creamy head, leaves great lacing. Smell is a little faint for me, mostly just getting citrus hops. Taste is super hoppy, citrus, pine, caramel, biscuit. Definitely a 'spicy' IPA. The mouthfeel is great and creamy on-tap. (I've had it on-tap a couple times since and it's been pretty thin with low carbonation, eh.) Hops would kill this over time but this IPA still holds up great in my book. 9 or 10 bucks for the 6-pack is a good price too.

Sampled on tap at Tyler's in Apex, NC.

A - A deep golden color with a slight haze and a moderate, creamy head.

S - Citrusy, Piney and grassy hops.

T - Dry with a firm citrusy bitterness. Just enough toasted malt for the foundation.

M - A moderate consistency and carbonation.

D -This is a solid, hoppy beer with lots of character. If there's any fault, it was a bit dry.

On tap in a pint glass.

Appearance: copper with thick lace

Nose: flowers, hops, spicy

Taste: smooth with a crisp finish, heavy hop in the end with a spicy part

Mouthfeel: smooth start and crisp finish

Drinkability: This is a beer that you can spend an evening with. It would pair well with spicy Asian food or rich and thick foods as well. The high quantity of hops has the ability to cut through spicy and decadent foods well.

On tap in a pint glass. Rich hazy orange color with a moderate white head. Some slightly cascading lacing. Nose is citrus and hops, with the taste bringing the same. The hop bitterness isn't overwhelming, but it's certainly there. Fairly medium bodied and appropriately tame carbonation - pretty silky smooth. Drinkability is good. Fairly well-rounded in every way, but I'm not sure it really excelled.

T: Immediate hops, but not overwhelming; nicely balanced.

Served on tap in 16 fl.oz. pint (tulip) glass at Goose Island - Clybourn, (November 24, 2009).

Eyes: Amber gold, a nice head with good lacing.

Nose: A suggestion of malt, but dominated by the grapefruit, oily hop aroma. Quite interesting.

Tongue: The citrus/floral hops appear strong and bitter, quite complex and interesting. No malts to speak of. I must admit that I like the profile here, but I'm a shade underwhelmed. Good, but the brew does not do enough with the bitter hops, I'm left expecting more.

Mouth: Smooth carbonation, crisp bitterness, but it doesn't linger very long.

Libation: Pretty good IPA. With something called "HopDevil" you'd expect a real hop bomb, but it's quite reasonable. It's interesting, easy drinking, a solid IPA.

Had this beer on draft with dinner. Served in a pint glass. Beer is red and clear. Yellow head made up of medium bubbles, carbonation low to moderate.

Aroma is mostly malt with a mild pine hop aroma. I was expecting more hops and less malt.

Low hop bitterness witht his beer, high hop flavor, mostly pine. Medium body, drinkability moderate. Bitterness builds as you drink. There is a mild bitter aftertaste that gets progressively worse the more you drink, affects drinkability a lot. The hops slowly coat your mouth. This beer is deceptively bitter.

Appearance: Nice copper color. Thick tan head. Resilliant lacing that sticks to the walls of the glass all the way down.

Aroma: Lots of citrus. Tons of Grapefruit with a little pine.

Taste: Upfront citrus notes. Bitterness follows in aftertaste. Perhaps not as balances as it should be.

Mouthfeel: Well carbonated. Hard to tell with high citrus notes. Light on tongue.

Overall, a good hoppy beer if you like extreme IPAs. However, I would have appreciated a more balanced beer. A higher gravity could have helped here.

had this on tap at a phillies-yankees world series game.

Poured a deep goldeny copper color, with a two finger white head that hung around nicely and left some solid rings of lacing around the cup.

Smells very hoppy, with some citrus coming through with the hops. Not much malt in the smell, but I'm a far bigger fan of hops anyway.

Tastes, again, very hoppy, Has some very nice citrus notes in the hops, with some grapefruit hops in the tail end of the flavors. Also can notice some maltiness in the end of the tasting that I didn't catch in the aroma. In my opinion, fantastic flavor.

Soem nice carbonation, not too horribly bubbly but also not flat or skunky. Makes me want to have more. Also has that bitter hoppy aftertaste that I love.

Overall I think that this was a great beer. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a hoppy beer.

A- Poured into a stemless red wine goblet, beautiful red hued amber deep copper color, nice 2 full fingers of frothy caramel colored fresh head.

S- Great bitter hop aroma, nice citrus, floral, some sweet alcohol, very mild clean malty balance, some sweet caramel. A nice swirl as it warms up, really releases that buttery sweet alcohol aroma.

T- Nice bitterness, grassy, fresh, tart, malt balance, citrus, toasty butter nut, love that hop acidity.

M- Great texture, well balanced, crisp, medium texture, with a fresh, lingering bitterness on tongue.

D- A very drinkable beer for me, lingers and refreshes, clean, makes me want another each time I have one, and a great East Coast style American IPA...

Arrived in a standard bar shaker glass a little on the cold side. The ale appears a hazed golden apricot color with about a finger of dense, lingering foam that grew a bit once it had some room in the glass. Nice lacing left behind. Flavors and aromas consist of white grapefruit juice and pith, resinous pine, toasted sweet bread, and caramel. A bit slick with a medium to full body and adequate carbonation. Very easy going down from the tap.

Had this in Atlantic City at the Borgata in the Fornelletto restaurant. Menacingly delicious, with the powerful, aromatic punch of whole flower American hops backed up by rich, German malts. HopDevil Ale offers a roller coaster ride of flavor, coasting to a smooth finish that satisfies fully.

Malts: Imported, German 2 row
Hops: American whole flowers
